Broncos vs Eels (Thursday, May 24 7:50pm AEST)
The first leg of our NRL Round 12 multi will start at Suncorp with a Broncos victory. Brisbane escaped with a comeback win over the Roosters here last week. But they’re still playing well enough to continue the Parramatta woes. The Eels are back in a hole after 3 straight losses. They haven’t won a match in 2018 as the away team. The main problem has been finding any rhythm in attack. They’re ranking last in the NRL for points scored. They actually won this matchup last season on Thursday night, 52-34. But at the moment, this Eels team is very different to the 2017 version. So the Broncos to get the job done and move to 7-5 on the season.
Cowboys vs Storm (Friday, May 25 7:50pm AEST)
The 2017 Grand Final re-match takes place in North Queensland and it’s fair to say both sides are looking far from their 2017 form. The home side is currently languishing in 15th spot on the ladder with 3 wins from 11. They have one of the worst attacks in the NRL and JT/Morgan just can’t find their groove. The Storm have looked the better side but they’re still inconsistent. They were incredibly poor at home last week against the Sea Eagles. However, the Cam Smith factor will be the main difference this week. He’s back from suspension and they’re a different side with him out there. They also have returning Jesse Bromwich and Sam Kasiano to bolster the forward pack. They hold a 8-3 record against the Cowboys and 4-2 up north in night matches. In the last 3 matches overall, they have outscored them 90-28. So the Storm’s attack should rebound against an average Cowboys defence.
Roosters vs Titans (Saturday, May 26 3:00pm AEST)
The next leg will head to the Central Coast with a Roosters victory. They won’t be happy after letting a lead slip against the Broncos last week and that spells trouble for the Titans. The Gold Coast recorded a good win over the Knights, but they still only just survived in the end. So the Roosters attack will be looking to take advantage of the Titans poor defence. They’ve allowed 26 points on average per game. While the Roosters haven’t been at their 100% best, this is the kind of match that could kickstart them. They showed good signs in Brisbane and they can’t afford to drop this for their top 8 hopes.
Panthers vs Dragons (Saturday, May 26 7:30pm AEST)
Our multi moves to Penrith with the top of the table clash. The Panthers are the outsiders but they’re a very good chance of knocking off the Dragons. The home side is undefeated at Panthers Stadium in 2018 and they hold a 3-1 record against the Dragons here. The Dragons last 2 matches haven’t been overly impressive. The Rabbitohs made them look pretty average and they just got over the line versus the Raiders. In the end, the Panthers have the defence to trouble the Dragons and that should be the difference in a close Panthers victory.
Knights vs Sharks (Sunday, May 27 2:00pm AEST)
The Cronulla Sharks are one of the hottest sides in the NRL and they’ll look to continue that record against the lowly Knights. The Sharks are riding a 5 match winning streak and they’ve moved into 5th on the ladder. Meanwhile, the Knights have lost 3 straight and the injury to Mitchell Pearce is showing. They rank last in the NRL for points allowed as well. The Sharks aren’t the best scoring team in the league, but they have still scored 20+ points in 4 of their last 5. So they should take advantage in Newcastle. They have a 6-0 record against the Knights since 2015 and the last 2 have gone 26-18 and 62-0. It probably won’t be 62-0 this time, but the Sharks are one of the safe bets this round.
