2018 Australian Open: Men’s Preview & Betting Tips

January 14, 2018 by Posted in Betting Tips

The year 2017 was one for the connoisseurs as Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal rolled back the years and had the tennis lovers swooning with their brilliant play. Now, in 2018, what does the new year have in store for us? Will there be a place for the returning stars or will the golden oldies gobble it up once again?
The Australia Open starting from Monday, January 15th will have an answer to all these queries and we preview the men’s action.

Check out our preview for the Women’s side of the draw!

Roger Federer
The Swiss maestro tuned in for the defence of his crown by teaming up with Belinda Bencic to win the Hopman Cup earlier this month. To say that he is in top form isn’t an exaggeration as Federer is being judicious with his choice of tournaments and is rocking at that!
The worry for Federer, though, is the draw which puts him in the same quarter as old nemesis Juan Martin del Potro, the inconsistent-yet-threatening Richard Gasquet, Milos Raonic, and David Goffin!

Rafael Nadal
The World number one will start his career post-Toni Nadal as he moves away from his uncle to get a new direction. He looked in top notch form last season and it would be an oversight to rule him out.
And, he got a favourable draw in Melbourne too, as his quarter is devoid of any major threats barring Marin Cilic. If anything, the Croat would be doing all the sweeping work for Nadal, as he gets ready to take the dangerous Yen-Hsun Lu and Pablo Carreno-Busta. Talk of getting the best out of a draw!

Novak Djokovic
Will he, or won’t he? The 14th-seeded former world number one is still under an injury cloud, although he has mentioned that he will take a qualified risk for the tournament.
The six-time Champion is tentative and don’t expect him to be in his elements right away. So, enjoy his play in Australia, till the time it lasts!

The likes of Stan Wawrinka are facing injury concerns which means the mantle of representing the ‘others’ falls on the likes of Grigor Dimitrov, Kevin Anderson and Nick Kyrgios!
Do not forget the young guns Dominic Thiem, Alexander Zverev, and others – but none of them look better than just making a splash here and there.

The home fans have high hopes on Kyrgios, once again! The mercurial Aussie won his first title on home soil in Brisbane, but can he do a repeat in Melbourne?

Federer is the undoubted king in the betting market, with odds of $3 (Sportsbet) on his win. But, can he live up to his expectations?

Nadal’s title win comes at odds of $5.50 (Ladbrokes) and this is the more exciting one. Leaving the injuries aside, the Spaniard should be a good pick. Odds of $2 (Sportsbet) on him reaching the final look interesting too!

TIP: Nadal to win the Australian Open – $5.50 at Ladbrokes
Saver Tip: Nadal to make the final – $2 at Sportsbet
