2018 AFL Round 3 Betting Tips

Smits Tips went 2-2 in Round 2 of the AFL to make it a solid 6-2 start to the season. There are some big games coming up in Round 3 with a lot of value on offer, so let’s get into it.

Carlton VS Collingwood (Friday, 7:50PM AEDT)

Round 3 kicks off with a blockbuster rivalry between the Blues and the Magpies. The Blues are coming off a really disappointing loss against the Suns last weekend, where they were simply outgunned and outmaneuvered from start to finish. The young Blues look vulnerable in defence, with key defenders Liam Jones and Jacob Weitering not up to scratch across the first 2 rounds.

Like the Blues, the Pies have started the season 0-2 and a desperate to get a win on the board. Although they eventually lost to the Giants last week, the Pies showed enough positive signs to suggest that they won’t be a horrible team in 2018.

The Pies have the superior list when compared to the Blues and we think they will grab their first win of 2018, covering the 2 goal line in the process.

TIP: Collingwood at the line (-11.5) – $1.92 at CrownBet

St Kilda VS Adelaide (Saturday, 7:25PM AEDT)

Saturday Night’s game features the Saints and the Crows. The Saints were deplorable in their Round 2 capitulation against North Melbourne. It was almost comical at times as they continuously turned the ball over with minimal pressure from the opposition. Saints fans will be hoping for a quick turnaround, but unfortunately for them they’re coming up against last season’s minor premiers.

The Crows bounced back from their Round 1 loss to the Bombers with an emphatic home win against the Tigers in a Grand Final rematch. Despite losing Matt Crouch early on, the Crows were terrific in tight and absolutely smashed the Tigers in the contested possession count. It’ll be interested to see how they play this weekend after such an emotional win in Round 2.

After such a terrible loss it’s hard to see the Saints being competitive against such an impressive outfit like the Crows. We are backing Adelaide to cruise to victory on Saturday Night.

TIP: Adelaide at the line (-19.5) – $1.92 at Ladbrokes

Richmond VS Hawthorn (Sunday, 1:10PM AEDT)

Kicking off a fantastic Sunday of AFL is a blockbuster duel between the Tigers and the Hawks. The Tigers were unsuccessful in Round 2, where they lost to the Crows in the Grand Final rematch. Dustin Martin (25 disposals, 5 goals) single-handedly kept the Tigers in the game right up until 3-quarter time, but faded away in the fourth.

The Hawks have reminded everyone that they’re still a force to be reckoned with, starting the season 2-0 with impressive wins against the Pies and the Cats. Tom Mitchell backed up his record-breaking 54 disposals in Round 1 with another huge game (40 disposals, 2 goals) against the Tigers in Round 2. Coach Alistair Clarkson looks to have completed one of the quickest rebuilds in recent memory and has a best 22 players who can take it up to anyone on their day.

We are tipping a close battle at the ‘G on Sunday afternoon, with the Hawks covering the small line.

TIP: Hawthorn at the line (+8.5) – $1.92 at Sportsbet

Western Bulldogs VS Essendon (Sunday, 3:20PM AEDT)

Our last value game of the week comes in the Sunday Afternoon battle between the Bulldogs and the Bombers. The Bulldogs have had a disgraceful start to the season with consecutive beltings from the Giants and the Eagles. Luke Beverage will be feeling the pressure leading into this weekends match, with the possibility of a 0-3 start looming.

The Bombers were disappointing in their Round 2 defeat away to the Dockers. They were never able to get things going and recapture their terrific Round 1 form, eventually falling by 16 points. However, they have a huge opportunity to get back on the winners list when they take on a poor Bulldogs outfit at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Unfortunately for Bulldog fans we are expecting more of the same. The Bombers have a really solid list and we can see them covering a 3 goal line in this one.

TIP: Essendon at the line (-15.5) – $1.92 at Ladbrokes
