AFL Round 22
Round 22 of the AFL has major implications with multiple teams still vying for the final couple of positions in the top 8. This week we’ve analysed one of the key matches from each day of action and provided our AFL Round 22 preview and betting tips.

Richmond vs Essendon (Friday, 7:50PM AEST)
The opening match of Round 22 features the Tigers and the Bombers at the MCG on Friday night. The Tigers have locked up a top 2 spot and now have the luxury of being able to rest their stars, which they’ve seemingly done with Prestia, Cotchin, Lambert and Astbury all set to miss. For the Bombers, they’re playing for their lives. They need to win their final two matches to give themselves a chance of playing in September.

The Tigers will obviously start the match as favourites and deservedly so. They’re on an unbelievable run at the MCG and seem to play their best footy on the big stage. However, this is such a massive game for the Bombers and we can see them really pushing the undermanned Tigers on Friday night. They may not win, but they should cover the line.

TIP: Essendon at the line (+14.5) – $1.92 at BetEasy

GWS vs Sydney (Saturday, 4:35PM AEST)
AFL’s newest rivalry will headline Saturday’s AFL slate, with the Giants hosting the Swans at Spotless Stadium in what Is a huge game for both sides. The Giants are looking to hold onto their top 4 spot, whilst also holding onto a slim chance of finishing top 2. As for the Swans, they’re still very much in danger of missing the 8, but a win here would gift them yet another finals berth.

It’s pretty much even money for both sides, with the Giants slightly shorter odds than the Swans at the bookies. The form of the Giants has been first class since the bye, winning 9 of their last 10 matches, while the Swans have struggled with consistency, but have managed to grind out 2 wins against tough opposition in consecutive weeks. It should be a hot contest, but we feel the Giants will be too fast on the outside and will come away with the win.

TIP: GWS to win – $1.80 at Ladbrokes

West Coast vs Melbourne (Sunday, 3:20PM AEST)
Highlighting an exciting day of football on Sunday is the Eagles vs Demons match at Optus Stadium. Once again, it’s a massive game for both side. The Eagles can lock in a top 2 finish and a guaranteed 2 home finals if they get the win, meanwhile, the Demons find themselves in a scrap in the middle of the table, but can secure a finals berth with a win in the West.

The Demons have given us absolutely no reason to trust them against top 8 sides this year, let alone top 4 sides. They’re yet to win against a quality opponent and will find themselves up against it on Sunday. The Eagles are coming off a tremendous win over Port Adelaide last weekend. They were seemingly done and dusted before Jeremy McGovern became a hero with a goal after the siren. All in all, the Eagles should be too strong for the Demons at home, who will be without star forward Jesse Hogan.

TIP: West Coast at the line (-7.5) – $1.92 at Sportsbet
