2018 AFL Round 15 Betting Tips
Round 15 of the 2018 AFL Premiership season begins on Thursday Night with a huge Richmond vs Sydney clash at Etihad! The great action doesn’t stop there, with another 8 games to play out over the weekend as the bye rounds are officially over! So without further ado, here’s SmitTips AFL Round 15 preview and betting tips.
Richmond Tigers vs Sydney Swans (Thursday, 7:20PM AEST)
The Tigers host the Swans in the round opener on Thursday Night at Etihad. It’s a top of the table clash with top spot on the ladder on offer for the winner! The Tigers bounced back from their loss to the Power to defeat the Cats by 18 points in Round 13, while the Swans defeated the Eagles for the second time this season to make it 6 on the trot for the red-and-white.
The all-time head-to-head results between these two sides couldn’t be much closer, with Richmond winning 31 and the Swans winning 33. The last 10 matches have been split with both teams winning 5, although the Swans have come out on top in their last 2 games, including a huge 113-point win in Round 23, 2016.
It should be a brilliant duel that comes right down to the wire, however, I like Sydney just a little bit more in this one. They’re in terrific form and matchup really well against the Tigers. Take them at the line for a bit of safety.
TIP: Swans at the line (+14.5) – $1.92 at Ladbrokes
Western Bulldogs vs Geelong Cats (Friday, 7:50PM AEST)
Round 15 action continues in Melbourne on Friday Night with the Bulldogs taking on the Cats at Etihad Stadium. The Bulldogs season went from bad to worse last week as they conceded a match-winning goal in the dying seconds against the Roos. Meanwhile, Geelong’s coming off a 3-goal loss to the Tigers and will be desperate to get back on the winners list to stay in touch with the top 4.
Geelong’s 44-21 all-time record against the Bulldogs is one of the most one-sided in AFL history. They have won an astonishing 11 straight against the Dogs and 15 of their last 16! The last time the Dogs had success against the Cats was way back in 2009 when Nathan Eagleton and Lindsay Gilbee were running the show.
Not only do Geelong have the tremendous history against the Dogs, but they also have a far superior list. Coupled, with the Dogs injury woes, I can see this one being a blowout.
TIP: Cats at the line (-30.5) – $1.92 at Sportsbet
Carlton Blues vs Port Adelaide Power (Saturday, 1:45PM AEST)
Saturday’s 5-game slate kicks off at the MCG with the Blues hosting the Power. Carlton were valiant in their Round 14 match against the Pies, but eventually went down by 20 points. On the other hand, Port Adelaide continued their great form by knocking off the Demons at Adelaide Oval in a thriller.
Port Adelaide narrowly lead the all-time head-to-head record against the Blues by 16 to 13. Surprisingly, Carlton have won 9 of the past 13 matches against the Power, although Port won the last outing by a massive 90 points in Round 5, 2017.
The Blues suffered even more injuries last weekend, whilst the Power are almost at full-strength. I just can’t see Carlton being competitive here.
TIP: Power at the line (-37.5) – $1.92 at CrownBet
Melbourne Demons vs St Kilda Saints (Sunday, 1:10PM AEST)
The last game of the round that I’ve found value in is the match between the Demons and the Saints. The Demons put up a great fight against the Power last weekend, but just weren’t able to execute in the clutch. Meanwhile, the Saints will be fresh after the bye and looking to make it 2 wins in a row for the first time this season.
The head-to-head record between these sides since 1980 is a remarkable 31-31 each. Both are starved of success and haven’t been able to capitalise on the others failures. In the last 10 matches, Saints have won 7 to the Demon’s 3, although the Demons 3 wins have been the last 3 matches played.
The Demons will be desperate to get a win to keep their top 4 hopes alive, while the Saints are just playing for pride at this points. Happy to take the Dees at the line here.
TIP: Demons at the line (-38.5) – $1.92 at Sportsbet
