2016 AFL Round 20 Betting
Our first blemish of the 2018 AFL Finals was a heartbreaking one with GWS failing to cover the line by 0.5 points. Despite that, we’ve still picked winners in 5 of 6 games and are confidently we can keep it going. Check out our 2018 AFL preview and betting tips for week three of the finals!

Richmond vs Collingwood (Friday, 7:50pm AEST)
What a game we have on our hands for the First Preliminary Final of 2018. The two biggest clubs in the country in Richmond and Collingwood are set to go toe-to-toe under the bright Friday night lights at the MCG. The stakes couldn’t be much higher than they are right now. The Tigers are attempting to go back-to-back and a win on Friday night would give them a great platform to do so, while the Magpies are seeking their first Grand Final appearance since they lost to Geelong in 2011.

It’s fair to say Richmond have been the best team in the league for the majority of the season. They have looked irresistible at times with their pressure and attack on the ball causing opposition teams all sorts of issues. The Tigers finished on top of the ladder with an impressive 18-4 record and have remained undefeated at the MCG, stretching their unbeaten record at the venue out to 22.

On the other hand, we have the Magpies who surprised everyone by making the top 8, let alone the Preliminary Final. It’s been a tremendous turn around for the Pies and coach Nathan Buckley, who was in hot water towards the end of the 2017 season after a string of bad results. There rise to prominence has correlated with the stellar seasons of Steele Sidebottom, Jordan De Goey and Adam Treloar, who will all need to be on top of their game to give the Pies a chance of making the ‘big dance’.

These sides have met twice in 2018, with the Tigers taking home the chocolates by 43 points (round 6) and 28 points (round 19). This doesn’t look great for the Magpies on paper, although it must be said that both contests were a lot closer than the score-line suggests.

With question marks over the fitness of Dustin Martin and David Astbury, this match may not be as straight forward for the Tigers as they’d like. We’re expecting the Magpies to be in this one up to their eyeballs when push comes to shove. We suggest a play on the Magpies at a very generous line.

TIP: Magpies at the line (+17.5) – $1.92 at Sportsbet

West Coast vs Melbourne (Saturday, 3:20pm AEST)
The Second Preliminary Final promises to be just as entertaining as the first with the West Coast Eagles hosting the Melbourne Demons at Optus Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles were tipped by many ‘experts’ to drop off the pace this year and enter a rebuild, but now find themselves with a golden chance to make the Grand Final on the back of a stellar year. Meanwhile, the Demons have had an up-and-down season, but find themselves in a rich vein of form at exactly the right time.

As mentioned above, not many gave the Eagles and chance coming into the season. They had just lost two superstar midfielders in Matt Priddis and Sam Mitchell to retirement and were supposedly lacking the depth to fill their void. However, the terrific form of Yeo, Shuey, Redden, Sheed and co. have helped elevate their side to achieve great success in 2018.

And the Demons? Well they’re just about every neutrals favourite team at the moment. After not making the finals for over 10 years, they’ve obliterated their first two opponents and travel to Perth with the highest of confidence that they can get the job done. They’ve already shown that their game plan is built for finals, so you can expect another great showing from them on Saturday afternoon.

The Demons and the Eagles met in Perth just 4 weeks ago and the conditions are expected to be very similar. On that day, the Demons came out on top with a 17-point victory on the back of an inspiring final term. This time, however, the Eagles will have both twin-towers (Kennedy and Darling) ready to fire.

We feel that this one will again be a close battle, with key moments likely deciding the outcome. However, the way the Demons attack the contest and break the lines is just perfect for finals football and we feel that they have a slight edge in this one. Happy to take them at the small line.

TIP: Demons at the line (+3.5) – $1.92 at BetEasy
