2017 Wimbledon Women’s Betting Tips

Serena Williams has won five Wimbledon titles since 2009 and is a seven-time winner at the All England Club. She is out of action due to pregnancy and another fan favourite Maria Sharapova is side-lined due to injury making this year’s women’s draw another wide-open field for the title. We look ahead to what’s in store over the next fortnight.

Two-time Champion Petra Kvitova (Czech Republic) is a hot favourite although there is a lot going against her. Making a fairy tale comeback to the circuit after being attacked before Christmas last year, the return to Grass courts has brought the old Kvitova to the fore.

After claiming her 20th career title at Birmingham, the crafty left-hander will have high hopes of going far in the tournament. Being seeded number 11, she has a tough draw lurking ahead with the likes of Simona Halep (Romania), Victoria Azarenka (Belarus) and local favourite Johanna Konta (England) waiting to be thorns in her passage to the final.

The Czech brigade has another strong contender this year in the form of third-seeded Karolina Pliskova. Having won the Eastbourne tournament in the warm-up to Wimbledon, the Czech has an added incentive of snatching the top rank from Kerber. Her record though is up against her as Pliskova has lost in the second round in each of the past four years.

The draw is slightly kinder to Pliskova who has Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova (Russia) and her Eastbourne losing finalist Caroline Wozniacki (Denmark) in her quarter. If she can overcome her second-round syndrome at the All England, Pliskova looms to be a serious contender.

Talking of which brings Angelique Kerber (Germany) into the picture. World number one and defending runner-up at the Wimbledon, Kerber has a lot to do after bombing out of the French Open in the first round. Last year saw her ride a dream run to the final only to lose to Serena.

The draw has not been kind to Kerber though, with a lot of difficult opponents placed in her quarter. Lucie Safarova (Czech Republic), Garbine Muguruza (Spain), Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia) and Timea Bacsinszky (Switzerland) are just some of the names that she must overcome!

Among others, the number two seed Halep will hope to overcome the unexpected French Open final loss. Draw is a tough barrier for her and going deeper in the tournament could be a challenge. Konta will bear the burden of local hopes – provided she recovers in time from the nasty fall in Eastbourne. For the Aussies, the withdrawal of Samantha Stosur (hand injury) means there is no credible interest.

Pliskova is the hot favourite at odds of $5.50 (William Hill) while Kvitova comes at odds of $6 (bet365). The rest of the players are almost like also-rans in the betting market.

TIP: Pliskova to be Champion – $5.50 at William Hill
