Roger Federer continued to defy age and critics as his immaculate 2017 season continued its . The Swiss maestro continued his love affair with Wimbledon reaching his 11th Wimbledon final. Awaiting him in the finals on Sunday is the Croatian surprise package Marin Cilic. His form at Wimbledon this year has been refreshing which means we have a great final in the offing.

Year so far
After the semi-final exit at the SW19, everyone that Federer is ready for his swansong. A six-month injury layoff didn’t help things either. But true to his champion spirt, Federer roared back into contention with a title win in the Australian Open.

Cilic had a below-par start to the season but found his bearings in the Clay season tournaments. In the warmup events to Wimbledon, a semi-final and final appearance got him to form.

Route to the final
Federer had an unblemished path to the final. He hasn’t dropped a set on his way to the title decider – something which he’s done three times now at Wimbledon. He had luck on his side too as Novak Djokovic’s injury-withdrawal cleared his path. That of course should not take the sheen off his campaign where victories over Grigor Dimitrov, Milos Raonic and Tomas Berdych were as comprehensive as any.

Cilic on the other hand made best use of the open draw in his half and was almost unchallenged till quarter-final. In the last-eight, he survived key moments to dump Rafael Nadal-slayer Gilles Muller. Cilic then followed it up with an impressive four-set win over Sam Querrey to reach his first Wimbledon final.
