Super Rugby Round 9 Betting Tips
Hurricanes vs Brumbies (Friday 5.35pm AEST)
The Brumbies suffered a shock loss last week at the hands of Australian Conference rivals the Rebels. The Brumbies were holding onto top spot with one hand and an expected victory in Melbourne would have put them in a great position to reach the finals at the halfway point of the season. However, a loss has seen the gap lowered but they still hold onto the top spot. Their ill-discipline let them down when it mattered most last week and they can’t afford to give the Hurricanes opportunities because their opponent’s attack will capitalise.
The Hurricanes are the defending premiers and are going through he season on cruise control. They have had challenges, and even lost a game to the Chiefs, but ultimately they look like the team to beat alongside the Crusaders. We are predicting the favourites to run away with this match, on the back of a strong performance from flyhalf Beauden Barrett who continues to impress every time he steps onto the field.
TIP: Hurricanes at the line (-17.5) – $1.90 with Sportsbet
Waratahs vs Kings (Friday 7.45pm AEST)
The Waratahs are having one of their worst seasons of the past decade. The side has managed just two wins thus far and they haven’t looked threatening at all. Their defence has gone by the wayside as they continue to lead points at a high rate while they have lost their ability to attack. We do believe they will come out on top this weekend but it won’t be an easy victory.
The Kings will play their third straight Australian Conference opponent and while they haven’t been able to earn a victory, they have played above expectations in their two previous matches. They have been involved in two high scoring matches with not much defence on display. They have proven they have points in them and on both occasions they beat the line suggested by the bookmakers. We are going to stick with that theory and predict the Kings at the line.
TIP: Kings at the line (+21.5) – $1.90 with CrownBet
Crusaders vs Stormers (Saturday 5.35pm AEST)
The undefeated Crusaders will take on the Stormers who suffered their first loss last week. The Crusaders remained perfect with a victory over the Sunwolves in a match that saw captain Kieran Reed, Richie Mo’unga and Seta Tamanivalu return from injury. The three are a huge boost for a side that has already been finding a way to win every week and their experience and creativity in attack will be required throughout the season.
The Stormers attack went missing last week as they weren’t able to trouble the Lions too often. They managed just two penalty goals for the final 60 minutes of the match and it is hard to earn victories when that is the case. The Stormers will need to get a good start this weekend if they are going to earn the victory. We believe they will keep the scorelines close and continue to apply pressure on the scoreboard with the boot but ultimately the Crusaders defence will earn them the victory.
TIP: Crusaders at the line (1-12) – $3.00 with William Hill
