2017 NRL Round 16 Betting Tips

June 21, 2017 by Posted in NRL Tips

The 2017 NRL season continues this weekend with a lot of players backing up from origin and seven matches to be played. We preview the key games of the weekend in our NRL Round 16 Preview and Betting Tips below.

New Zealand Warriors vs Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs (Friday 6pm AEST)
The Warriors will be hosting this one and fortunately for them they won’t be impacted by the origin period because none of their players were selected to represent either NSW or QLD. The Warriors earned a big win in their last start, blowing the Titans off the park on the road at the Gold Coast. Their attack began to click and they looked impressive. Roger Tuivasa-Sheck had his best game as a Warrior and he will be looking to build on that performance.

The Bulldogs snapped a four game losing streak in their last start against the Dragons but we were far from convinced. The side was held scoreless in the opening forty minutes despite the majority of possession and territory. They scored three tries in the second half but they had more luck involved than skill. We are predicting them to struggle on the road with their stars backing up after two days from origin.

TIP: Warriors at the margin (1-12) -$2.88 at Sportsbet

North Queensland Cowboys vs Penrith Panthers (Saturday 3pm AEST)
Unfortunately for the Cowboys, this is one of the tougher periods of the season for them. Their best players will be backing up from origin and we find it unlikely they will play Johnathan Thurston in this one, due to the multiple injuries he has suffered this season. It would be a huge blow for the side and even if he is to take the field our prediction will remain the same.

The Panthers have bounced back to form in recent weeks and it has coincided with captain Matt Moylan’s move into five-eighth. He is a brilliant half and has always had the potential to help control the game and get his hands on the ball in an earlier position. It has allowed for their attack to look more dangerous as they have Dylan Edwards at fullback who is an extra option. We are predicting them to earn a narrow victory on the road.

TIP: Panthers at the margin (1-12) – $3.75 at CrownBet

Cronulla Sharks vs Manly Sea Eagles (Sunday 4pm AEST)
NRL Round 16 wraps up on Sunday afternoon and fortuantely for the Sharks their best players will have five days rest after origin and should all take the field for them in this one. However, it is still a handful of players who will be backing up from the toughest arena in rugby league. Their ability to get up for the game will be tested while they could be either deflated or coming off a hangover depending on their result.

Meanwhile the Sea Eagles season has been a rollercoaster. The side has played at a high level in matches but backed it up with a poor performance the following week. They are coming off a hard fought victory against the Raiders a fortnight ago and they enjoyed a bye last week. We are predicting the Sea Eagles to smell blood in the water in this one and earn the victory and maintain their perfect record on the road this year.

TIP: Sea Eagles at the margin (1-12) – $3.60 at William Hill
