NRL Round 15 Betting Tips
South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Gold Coast Titans (Friday 7.50pm AEST)
The South Sydney Rabbitohs and Gold Coast Titans seasons will essentially be on the line in this match up but unfortunately for the Titans they will be hit hard due to Origin. They will be without three of their best players in Jarryd Hayne, Nathan Peats and Jarrod Wallace while Kane Elgey and Karl Lawton will join them on the sidelines. It has forced a massive reshuffle for the side, with backrower Chris McQueen to start at five-eighth. The side will struggle to score points without their key men and a lot of pressure will be on the shoulders of young gun Ashley Taylor.
Meanwhile the Rabbitohs suffered a narrow loss against the Broncos on the road last week but they should be credited for their effort. The side was able to muscle up in the middle of the field and Sam Burgess continues to lead the way for them. They should be able to lay a solid platform for Cody Walker and Adam Reynolds to take advantage of.
TIP: Rabbitohs at the line (-10.5) – $1.90 at CrownBet
Melbourne Storm vs North Queensland Cowboys (Saturday 5.30pm AEST)
The Cowboys and Storm will both be affected by Origin in this one. However, the Storm are definitely the bigger losers in that department with their spine Cameron Smith, Cooper Cronk and Billy Slater out of action alongside another attacking and experienced player Will Chambers. To make matters worse for the Storm Jordan McLean and Cheyse Blair will miss the contest through injury. The Storm were able to earn a victory over the defending champions the Sharks last week but they will field a very different side in this one with Tim Glasby also receiving a call up.
Meanwhile the Cowboys will enter this one without Johnathan Thurston, Michael Morgan, Gavin Cooper and Origin debutant Coen Hess. The absences of the halves pairing of Thurston and Morgon will leave a lot of pressure on the shoulder of Lachlan Coote. However, the same can be said for Cameron Munster in the Storm. Coote has the advantage in that battle as his ability to organise a team is on the same level as a half. We believe he will be able to pull the strings on the back of Jason Tuamalolo leading the forward pack as the Cowboys earn the victory on the road.
TIP: Cowboys to win – $2.25 at Ladbrokes
Cronulla Sharks vs Wests Tigers (Saturday 7.30pm AEST)
The Sharks lose five of their stars through Origin and a lot of their important pieces. Luckily for the Sharks they have a lot of depth with their players coming in as replacements having plenty of experience and could easily be starters for a lot of teams in the competition. They will definitely be a weakened side but don’t expect them to be rolled over. They proved they can compete without their origin stars when they earned a one point victory over the Bulldogs in round 12.
The Wests Tigers will be without James Tedesco and Aaron Woods but in a boost for the side Luke Brooks makes his return. The Tigers were blown off the park but the Roosters last week and they made far too many errors. We believe the side will be competitive in this one but their inability to apply pressure will prevent them from breaking the Sharks line consistency.
TIP: Sharks at the margin (1-12) – $3.10 at Sportsbet
Parramatta Eels vs St George Illawarra Dragons (Sunday 4pm AEST)
The Dragons enter this one on the back of a disappointing loss against the Bulldogs on Monday night. The side lacked creativity in attack and they weren’t able to overcome the pressure they were forced to absorb in the opening 20 minutes. Their defence was strong though and the tries they leaked had a lot to do with the luck going the way of the Bulldogs. They will be without Josh Dugan and Tyson Frizell in this one but expect their forward pack to be strong with Gareth Widdop hoping for an improved performance too.
Meanwhile the Eels will field a strong side that hasn’t been affected due to Origin selection. Mitchell Moses and Corey Norman had a shaky start to their halves pairing as they suffered an embarrasing loss at the hands of the Cowboys. We expect them to be better in this match with an extra week of training and film under their belts and we believe they will bounce back for a narrow victory.
TIP: Eels at the margin (1-12) – $3.00 at William Hill
