2017 NRL Round 14 Betting Tips
The 2017 NRL season continues this weekend and it will kick off with a bang on Thursday night with a grand final rematch. We preview the key clashes of the round in our NRL Round 14 Preview and Betting Tips below.
NRL Round 14 Betting Tips
Cronulla Sharks vs Melbourne Storm (Thursday 7.50pm AEST)
To kick things off in NRL Round 14 we take a look at the grand final rematch. These two sides met earlier this season in Melbourne with the defending champions the Sharks getting the better of the Storm. It is one of only two losses for the Storm this year who will head into this match at close to full strength. Cameron Smith is back in the line up after he didn’t back up after Origin while Jesse Bromwich will play his second match after a month on the sidelines.
Meanwhile the Sharks are also at full strength and despite being the defending champions they haven’t been spoken about much this season. The side has moved into second position on the ladder and they are a real chance of going back-to-back. The side has been able to get the better of teh Storm in their last two meetings and it is on the back of their defence. However, we believe it will be their ability to offload in attack that will prove the difference as it is an achillies heel for the Storm.
TIP: Sharks at the margin (1-12) – $2.88 at Sportsbet
Manly Sea Eagles vs Newcastle Knights (Friday 6pm AEST)
The Sea Eagles will head into this one after sneaking into the top eight. The side has been inconsistent this year but they are an improved side throughout the past month. They are playing with confidence and Daly Cherry-Evans has definitely benefited from Blake Green playing alongside him in the halves. Tom Trbojevic is a chance of making an early return for this contest as he was named on an extended bench but they are likely to not risk him for this match against the lowly Knights.
Newcastle are continuing to remain on the bottom of the table and have only two wins this year. This is the part of the season where they could begin to fall off as the games begin to become pointless as their chances of reaching the finals have evaporated. We believe the Sea Eagles will run away with a comfortable victory in this one.
TIP: Sea Eagles at the margin (13+) – $1.85 at CrownBet
Penrith Panthers vs Canberra Raiders (Saturday 5.30pm AEST)
The Raiders will head into this one on the back of another narrow loss. It was the second time they have lost to the Sea Eagles in golden point this season and the four competition points they have missed out on in that extra period has cost them a top eight spot. The side hasn’t been able to hit its peak in attack but their defence has improved. The Green Machine has the potential to hit ridiculous heights but it has eluded them thus far.
Meanwhile the Panthers earned their most convincing victory last week after they smashed the Bulldogs 38-0. It was the first 80 minute performance from the side and they played with a lot of conviction. The forward pack stood up and lead from the front while the move of Matt Moylan to five-eighth proved a huge success. He remains in the number six jersey this week and expect him to have another dominant performance next to the young Nathan Cleary in the halves.
TIP: Panthers at the margin (1-12) – $3.30 at Sportsbet
