2017 NRL Round 12 Betting Tips

The 2017 NRL season continues this weekend as the bye period begins. We take a look at the four matches for this weekend and offer our Round 12 Preview and Betting Tips.

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Parramatta Eels (Friday 7.50pm AEST)
The first match of NRL Round 12 comes on Friday night with the Rabbitohs taking on the Eels. Neither side will be impacted by Origin selection with their two usual stars selected for the pinnacle of NRL out injured.

The Rabbitohs weren’t able to overcome the wrestle of the Storm last week as they fell to them in Perth. They put together a strong performance though and it was a lot to build upon. The side has improved over the past month – depsite the loss to the Sea Eagles – and it can be pinpointed down to the improvement in the forward pack and Sam Burgess recapturing his best form. We are predicting him to maintain this form into Friday nights meeting as they look to return to winning ways.

Meanwhile the Eels will enter this match on the back of a loss too. They weren’t able to complete the comeback in Mitchell Moses’ first match as an Eel. He played okay in the match but it is evident the 22-year-old will take a few weeks before the combination with the side reaches its full potential. They are still without Corey Norman and we can’t see them earning the victory in this one.

TIP: Rabbitohs at the margin (1-12) – $3.00 at William Hill

New Zealand Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos (Saturday 5.30pm AEST)
The Warriors are entering the State Of Origin period on a massive low after suffering two embarrassing losses in a row. This is usually the period the side flourishes as it is rare they lose a player to Origin duty. However, it is hard to back a side that has let a 22-point half time lead slip against the Panthers and backed that effort up on home soil losing to a Dragons outfit without their two best players – Josh Dugan and Gareth Widdop. They will need to step up this weekend and prove they are finals contenders, which they should be.

On the other hand, the Broncos are entering the period where they generally struggle. Having one of the best rosters in the competition is always going to be a hassle during a time where representative duties are front and centre. Ben Hunt makes a timely return to slot back into the side at halfback while Benji Marshall will make his first start for the Broncos and pushes Kodi Nikorima to the bench. The side is without a lot of punch and crispness in attack but they have a very deep roster. We are backing them at the line.

TIP: Broncos at the line (+9.5) – $1.90 at CrownBet

Cronulla Sharks vs Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs (Saturday 7.30pm AEST)
These two sides have been affected in a big way by Origin selection with the Sharks side coming off worse for wear. The Sharks are definitely the more crippled side as they lose x-factor players in key positions who they rely on for big performances for victory. However, Paul Gallen remains in the side for the first time since he was selected in the NSW side. They are likely to struggle in attack but will put up a fight defensively. The side hasn’t hit its peak in attack with their stars on the field.

Meanwhile the Bulldogs rollercoaster season continued last week and unfortunately for them they weren’t able to muster a comeback against the Roosters. They left their first too late and a couple of 50/50 calls went against them. We are predicting them to have a better start in this one and luckily for the Bulldogs they have a lot of depth in the outside backs/backrow where they are missing their Origin stars. We have them coming away with a narrow win in this one.

TIP: Bulldogs at the margin (1-12) – $3.70 at Sportsbet

Canberra Raiders vs Sydney Roosters (Sunday 4pm AEST)
The Roosters are another side that will be hit hard due to Origin. They lose their co-captain Boyd Cordner from the left edge and his work rate and leadership will definitely be missed on the field while halfback Mitchell Pearce has been selected for NSW despite never leading the Blues to a series victory. Blake Fergurson and Aiden Guerra have also been selected for their states. It is a big loss for the side and they will struggle in attack, defence and organisation without their stars.

Meanwhile the Raiders only lose Josh Papali and they have one of the stronger/deeper forward packs in the competition and will be able to cover the loss. The side hasn’t hit its straps this season but they are coming off a victory against the Eels last week. We are predicting them to build momentum during the Origin period – similar to what they did last season. We are backing them to cover the line in this one.

TIP: Raiders at the line (-6.5) – $1.91 at William Hill
