2017 NFL Week 8 Betting Tips
The 2017 NFL season continues this weekend and we take a look at the primetime Australian televised matches and one other game with the best value. Continue reading for our NFL Week 7 Preview and Betting Tips.
Baltimore Ravens vs Miami Dolphins (Friday 11.25am AEST)
Of all the game to be on Thursday night football this week, this is arguably the worst. The Ravens have a 3-4 record but again their attack struggled on the weekend in a loss to the Vikings. Joe Flacco hasn’t been able to get going this season and he doesn’t have the wide receivers to make plays for him. He managed just 144 yards in the air against the Vikings on 44 dropbacks, it isn’t good enough. Also, their running game wasn’t much better.
The Dolphins racked up another win on Monday morning and have moved to a record of 4-2. They were able to do it without Jay Cutler at quarterback as Matt Moore stepped in for Cutler who has cracked Ribs. Cutler is likely to miss this contest – which is likely a blessing for Dolphins fans. Moore showed poise under pressure last week and has better statistics than Cutler since the beginning of the 2016 season. Of course Cutler has more experience but Moore showed he wanted it more. We are predicting the defence to help the Dolphins earn a tight win in this one.
TIP: Dolphins to win – $2.56 at Sportsbet
Detroit Lions vs Pittsburgh Steelers (Monday 11.30am AEST)
The Steelers won their last two games on the back of their defence. They came close to shutting downt the Bengals offence in the second half in their last contest while they were impressive against the Chiefs a week earlier. If their defence can continue at this level, the Steelers will be a tough team to beat with Anontio Brown and Le’Veon Bell dominating on the offensive end.
The Lions will enter this contest on the back of a bye. It has been a rollercoaster season so far for Detroit who have let games slip through their fingers. They have a 3-3 record but they will improve if they can get their offensive line sorted. Matthew Stafford was pounded in their last start but one of the worst defences in the league in the Saints. They need to give him some breathing room to attack but unfortunately we don’t believe they will get it sorted in time to upset the Steelers’ current flow.
TIP: Steelers at the line (-3) – $1.95 at William Hill
Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos (Tuesday 11.30am AEST)
The Chiefs and Broncos will do battle in what is set to be a tight game, but it won’t be the most exhilarating. These two sides will attempt to grind down their opponents through the running game and utilising their defence.
The Chiefs started the season perfect over the opening five weeks of the season but have suffered back-to-back defeats against the Steelers and then the Raiders. Both contests were tight with slow starts proving the difference. The Chiefs were able to score 30 points but they will be worried with their defence giving up 31 points, including a game winning drive. They will have the benefit of an extra long break though.
How did that happen? The Broncos were shutout and leaked 21 points against the Chargers as they continue their midseason free fall. They looked like the team to beat over the opening two rounds but it seems defences have figured out their quarterback Trevor Siemian. On the back of this, we believe the Chiefs will come away with a comfortable – but narrow – win in this one.
TIP: Chiefs at the margin (1-13) – $2.49 at Sportsbet
Philadelphia Eagles vs San Francisco 49ers (Monday 4am AEST)
The 49ers unveiled rookie quarterback CJ Beathard with his first start in the NFL. However, it didn’t turn into the perfect career start as the 49ers suffered a 40-10 defeat at home. Beathard showed some solid plays including his first career touchdown but he also threw for an interception. Ultimately, the 49ers were outmuscled by one of the many superior teams in the NFL.
Meanwhile the Philadelphia Eagles are continuing to soar. They are 6-1 on the season and have the best record in the NFL. The defence still has areas to improve but with Carson Wentz running the offence, they are going to be a force to be wreckoned with. The second year quarterback threw a lot of impressive passes in the victory against the Redskins and he played at the level of an MVP. We are picking him to tear the 49ers a part.
TIP: Eagles at the margin (14+) – $1.99 at Sportsbet
