The 2017 NFL season began with a shock and the opening weekend continued to entertain. We take a look at some of the key games of the upcoming weekend in our NFL Week 2 Preview and Betting Tips below.

NFL Week 2 Betting Tips

Cincinnati Bengals vs Houston Texans (Friday 10.25am AEST)
The Bengals and Texans had a terrible start to the season and neither side looks worthy of backing for this contest. However, the Bengals have the home field advantage but we will be backing the away side’s defence to get them over the line with a victory.

Andy Dalton had a poor game for the Bengals to start off the season and it could be a tough year for him if the offensive line doesn’t offer him more coverage. Dalton has had a rollercoaster career but prior to a couple of injuries over the past two years he had started to find form. He will need to recapture the old Dalton if he is to lead the Bengals to victories this year and it could be tough going against the Texans.

The Texans defence has always been their strong point and it let them down last week as the Jaguares scored 29 points. We are predicting them to turn things around with a strong defensive showing in this one. The side will be able to apply a lot of pressure to Dalton and he is notorious for making mistakes against the Rush. It will lead to more possessions for the Texans and ultimately the win.

TIP: Texans at the margin (1-13) – $3.62 at Sportsbet

Atlanta Falcons vs Green Bay Packers (Monday 10.30am AEST)
These two sides earned victories in the opening weekend. However, it was arguably the Packers who were more impressive and not the Falcons who we thought would want to make a big statement to start the season after their Superbowl disappointment.

The Packers held off the Seahawks and it was their defence which earned the team the victory. They shut down Russell Wilson as the Seahawks offensive line was torn a part. The Packers defence will need to be strong again to the shut down Matt Ryan. Meanwhile, Aaron Rodgers threw for two touchdown passes against the notoriously strong Seahawks defence.

The Falcons weren’t at their best against the Bears but they earned the victory on the road. Their running game didn’t get much traction but Ryan managed to throw for more than 300 yards. We believe it will be a tight game but Rodgers will prove the difference and earn the win.

TIP: Packers to win – $2.22 at William Hill

New York Giants vs Detroit Lions (Tuesday 10.30am AEST)
The Giants suffered an embarrassing loss against the Cowboys as their offence failed to build any momentum. However, fortunately for the side they will have the extended break this week and it should give enough time for superstar wide receive Odell Beckham Jnr to make his return. It will give Eli Manning his main target back in the offence and it will open up opportunities for other players and their running game. Expect a different Giants side to take the field at their home stadium on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions enter this contest on the back of a huge victory. The side trailed heading into the final period but a Matthew Stafford master class in the final quarter lead to the side scoring 20-points and starting the year off with a win. However, we are predicting the Giants to bounce back and earn the win in front of their home fans.

TIP: Giants at the line (-3.5) – $1.92 at Sportsbet

New Orleans Saints vs New England Patriots (Monday 3am AEST)
It isn’t often the Patriots enter the final quarter in the lead and lose, especially on their home field. However, that happened against the Chiefs on opening night and no doubt Tom Brady will have a fire in his belly when he faces off with his foe Drew Brees on Monday morning. The Patriots aren’t a side that stays down for long and we are predicting them to come out and earn a huge victory in this one.

Last week we mentioned the Saints had improved their defence on years past, how wrong we were. The Saints allowed 29-points and against a side which isn’t known for its offence. Sam Bradford was given all the time in the world in the pocket and he tore their defence a part. If Tom Brady is given anywhere near that time, he will embarrass the Saints with ease.

TIP: Patriots at the line (-6.5) – $1.94 at Sportsbet

Dallas Cowboys vs Denver Broncos (Monday 6.25am AEST)
The Cowboys and Broncos will face off on Monday morning and we are predicting a dominant running game from both sides. Ezikiel Elliot and C.J Anderson both ran on more than 20 occasions for their respective sides while the Broncos’ Jamaal Charles chimed in for 10 runs of his own. It will chew up a lot of clock and take the pressure off of Dak Prescott and Trevor Sieman.

However, it is clear Prescott is the better quarterback and he will read the situations better. He will be able to make the play which changes the game and lead his side to victory. The offensive line of the Cowboys is second to none and it will set the appropriate platform for the running game and also for Prescott to find his receivers. It will be a very close and low scoring game.

TIP: Total points Under 42.5 – $1.91 at William Hill
