2017 ICC: Australia v Bangladesh Betting Tips

Australia and Steve Smith had to thank their lucky stars as rain helped them snatch an unlikely point against New Zealand in their tournament opener. To keep their qualification hopes from a tight Group A, the Aussies now have to defeat Bangladesh when they play at The Oval on Monday, June 5th.

Nothing less than a win
A short tournament like this always mean that there is little room for error – especially after you drop points in the opening match. Smith and co. had a rare poor outing with the ball although they were brilliant in the final six overs. Josh Hazlewood was the sole shining beacon while lack of match practice made Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins look insipid.

Their batting unit would get the benefit of doubt after just nine overs of action was possible. In a full game, David Warner and Smith still hold the guns and their hopes. There will be serious thought on changing their bowling line-up to get more control in the middle overs.

Cummins will come under scrutiny with James Pattinson lying in wait in the reserves. Also under contention should be the leg-spinner Adam Zampa. One of the all-rounders will be under threat.

Can Bangladesh repeat Cardiff of 2005?
Bangladesh are the sixth ranked ODI team and they truly deserve that position. It is also true that they would be disappointed at letting England off the hook in the tournament opener. For long periods of their batting, they dominated the English bowlers but fell short by at least 30 runs. In the final analysis, that contributed to their loss more than most of the factors.

Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim were brilliant in their partnership and would once again be their main men. Their bowling looked a man short and Mashrafe Mortaza would want his main bowlers to step up.

Mehedi Hasan could play in this match, to provide control in the middle overs – probably at the expense of Mosaddek Hossain or Imrul Kayes. Taskin Ahmed is also waiting on the sidelines to play in place of Rubel Hossain.

Form & Stats
One poor performance does not make them a bad side but the Kangaroos would be wary of another below-par display. Even a washout would kill their chances and Smith will hope that the first match performance was purely because of lack of match practice.

The last time these two sides met was in 2011 and so gauging how Bangladesh stacks up is purely theoretical. The Tigers won just one match against the Kangaroos in 19 attempts, which was at Cardiff in 2005.

Picks
An Australian win comes at odds of $1.20 (bet365). Although this looks the most likely result, the odds do not make it an attractive punt.

Warner is in such great form from the IPL that Smith will hope for some quick runs from his aggressive opener. Back him to be the top batsman for Australia at odds of $4.33 (bet365).

TIP: Warner top AUS run scorer – $4.33 at Sportbset
