2017 French Open: Women’s Singles Betting Tips
No Serena Williams, no Maria Sharapova and no Victoria Azarenka. Undoubtedly, the 2017 French Open Women’s tournament will be one of the most wide-open field for a long time. This will also mark the first occasion since 2011 French Open that Serena is absent from any Grand Slam.
Does that make defending Champion Garbine Muguruza a favorite! The Spaniard has shocked the Tennis world by upsetting Serena to the title last year. Ever since though, she struggled to live up to the expectations and pressures that come of being a Grand Slam Champion. She has not won a title yet this year and her best performance is reaching the quarters in Australian Open. Roland Garros is not kind to defending Champions as no woman barring Justine Henin since 2007 was able to reclaim the trophy. It will be a record if Muguruza defends the title as odds of $11(bet365) indicate.
World number one Angelique Kerber has a great chance to annex the title where she lost in first-round last year. Her clay results are a dampener though with the 29-year-old’s best performance being the third-round result in Madrid. She has the quality and the game to win the title but poor form indicates she may struggle to go beyond quarterfinals. Odds of $17 (bet365) should give you the picture.
Third seed Simona Halep of Romania has a different tale to tell. Always a strong contender in any tournament she enlists, Halep has struggled to adapt to the pressures of Grand Slams. However, she has turned her season around after losing in the first round of Australian Open this year. She won the title in Madrid and reached the final at Rome, in what is perfect practice before the tournament. At odds of $5 (William Hill), Halep is bookies’ favorite. If she is able to go past the initial couple of rounds, Halep may go all the way.
Second seed Karolina Pliskova may well be the underdog given the wide-open field. She has won two titles in 2017 already although her form in clay season has been anything but noteworthy. Her best result in Roland Garros has been reaching second round only which means she has everything to gain this year. She also has the incentive of claiming the world number one ranking if results go her way. Odds of $17(bet365) are not so kind though and it will be a shock if she wins.
Among others, the Ukraine sensation Elina Svitolina will be the one to watch out after her win in Rome. For the Aussies, veteran Sam Stosur continues to be the bright talking point while Daria Gavrilova may provide a spark or two. Overall, it looks a very difficult field to predict.
TIP: Gabrine Muguruza to win the French Open – $11 at bet365
