2017 French Open
The second Grand Slam of 2017 is on the anvil and there is just one question on the minds of all tennis lovers with the French Open starting next week. Will Rafael Nadal win a record-breaking tenth title at the Roland Garros?.

The 30-year-old Spaniard has already lay his mark for the title by having a stellar clay season. Titles in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Madrid and a quarterfinal appearance in Rome makes him one of the players to beat. Critics were quick to declare that Nadal would not be a force to reckon but he defied all criticism to reach the finals of the Australian Open earlier this year. Prolonged injuries and poor form looks a thing of the past as Nadal looks set to bulge his Grand Slam kitty of 14 titles. Will he achieve the coveted ‘La Decima’ this year? Odds of $1.83 (Ladbrokes) make him a very strong contender for the title.

World number two and defending Champions Novak Djokovic was an unstoppable force – not long ago. A horrid slump resulted in him losing his top ranking to Andy Murray while culminating in a change of coaching staff. Hiring Andre Agassi could be a masterstroke but Djoko’s form of 2017 does not evoke any hopes in his supporters. The only solace is that the weight of expectations is no longer there after having completed his Grand Slam set with last year win. Odds of $4.33 (Ladbrokes) make him a strong competitor for the title but tough to see him lift the trophy.

Murray comes into the tournament as top-ranked player but nothing has gone to plan so far this year. In four of the five Masters’ tournaments he contested this year, the best he could achieve was reaching the third round at Monte Carlo and Madrid. Odds of 15.0 (William Hill) tell you how difficult the stage is set for Murray to make his mark.
Of the other top ranked players, Stan Wawrinka will be the one to watch out. After his compatriot Roger Federer’s pullout, the venerable Swiss will look to reclaim his winning run of 2015. Odds of $15 (William Hill) put him far behind in the race and it would be a huge surprise if he actually wins.

All eyes will be on rising star Alexander Zverev who has done no harm to his credentials by storming to Rome title last week. The 20-year-old is currently the youngest in the top-10 and will be a threat to every player – considering his recent form. Odds of $17 (William Hill) do not indicate a kind outlook from the bettors but keep an eye on this youngster. Dominic Thiem is another talented youngster although his chances of lifting the title are remote.
For the Aussies, there are high hopes on the volatile Nick Kyrgios who is struggling to regain fitness and form that make his a threat to the top players.
