french open mens final 2017
French Open 2017 is one-step away from finding the Men’s Champion. Rafael Nadal is one victory away from achieving a dream ‘La Decima’ at the Roland Garros. He faces Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in the showpiece final on Sunday, June 11th.

Nadal’s show of strength so far
The fourth-seed Spaniard has been in sparkling form in this tournament. He is yet to drop a set this year and is the red-hot favourite for the title. His level of play, especially against Austria’s Dominic Thiem in the semi-final where he won 6-3, 6-4, 6-0, has been nothing short of amazing.

The Austrian youngster reached the semi-final without dropping a set like Nadal and had even dumped the defending Champion Novak Djokovic in the quarters. Nadal has dropped only 29 games to reach the final – although his quarters opponent retired midway – which is only two more than Bjorn Borg’s record set in 1978.

After his lame lost to Djokovic in 2015 and the subsequent injuries, Nadal looks hungrier for success on a surface where he has no rival in his contemporaries.

Super Stan is a real threat
With fellow compatriot Roger Federer deciding to skip the tournament, Stan Wawrinka became the face of Switzerland challenge in this tournament. Just like his unassuming game, the third seed at 32 years is the oldest man to reach the Paris final since Niki Pilic in 1973.

Wawrinka has some noted scalps to his name this tournament that include Fabio Fognini, Gael Monfils and Marin Cilic – all in straight sets before the semis. However, the most notable win for Wawrinka came in the last four when he defeated the top seed Andy Murray in a classic five-setter 6-7, 6-3, 5-7, 7-6, 6-1.

The three-time Grand Slam winner does not get his due among contemporary greats although he has held his own amongst Federer, Djokovic, Murray and Nadal.

Nadal is hot favourite to lift the title and odds of $1.20 (Paddypower) make him the favourite pick of the bookies as well. Wawrinka is an outsider at odds of $5.50 (bet365) which is risky even considering the threat he poses.

Nadal is in hot streak right now and it is difficult to see him losing a set. Picking the match to be three sets comes at odds of $1.75 (William Hill).

TIP: Total sets to be three – $1.75 at William Hill
