2017 Davis Cup: Australia vs United States Betting Tips

Davis Cup Quarters
Old enemies in Australia and the United States renew their Davis Cup rivalry when the face-off in the quarter-final at the Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane. The tie will be played from April 7–9.

Missing Tomic?
Australian captain Lleyton Hewitt will have to manage without the explosive Bernard Tomic who was not selected owing to his standoff with Tennis Australia. In his absence, the mantle of leading the charge falls on Nick Kyrgios.

The world number 16 is in red-hot form and looks to have added a bit of consistency to his repertoire. Kyrgios is fresh from his epic semi-final loss to Roger Federer at the Miami Open which convinced many that he is a force to reckon this year.

Joining him in the singles would be 79th ranked Jordan Thompson while the doubles mantle will fall upon John Peers and Sam Groth.

United States start as huge favorites
The cisitors should start as favorites – at least on paper and at least before the first ball is hit. Their challenge would be spearheaded by world number 15 Jack Sock and number 23 John Isner.

Non-playing captain Jim Courier has a strong backup too with Sam Querrey in the wings along with Steve Johnson. The absence of Bryan brothers who are now retired from Davis Cup duty would mean that Courier is yet to decide on his doubles combination.

Past, present and the future!
These two are the most successful nations in Davis Cup history sharing 60 of the 105 titles. United States leads with 32 titles but their last victory came in 2007. Australia has 28 wins of their own but their last win was way back in 2003.

Head-to-head, the US leads Australia 26-20 including a 3-1 win in last year’s first round in Melbourne. The lone point for the Aussies was won by Tomic.

The winner of this tie would go on to meet either Belgium or Italy in September for a place in the final. There’s a school of thought that both teams from Brisbane have a glorious chance to end their Davis Cup title drought this year!

Odds
The US are hot favorites for the tie considering the line-ups in place. Odds of $1.72 (bet365) make them bookies’ favorite too!

But the presence of Kyrgios and the absence of Bryan brothers makes one wonder if there is a twist in tale. Australia win is offered at odds of $2 (bet365) which isn’t an outlandish punt.
Either way, it looks like the tie would go all the way and whoever wins it may end up with a 3-2 score.

TIP: United States to win – $1.72 at Bet365
