AFL round 20
We hit on just 1 of 4 tips last weekend in a tough AFL slate all around for punters that included a draw and a few underdog wins. It’s been an interesting week in AFL with Nick Riewoldt’s retirement announcement as well as the Patrick Dangerfield suspension. We’ll look to get back on the winners list this week as we present our AFL Round 20 Betting Tips below.

Geelong vs Sydney (Friday 7.50pm AEST)
Massive Friday night game to kick off Round 20 as the Swans travel Geelong to take on the Cats. The Cats will obviously be without Patrick Dangerfield, who was suspended for one game throughout the week. Should be a massive advantage for the Swans who will want to bounce back after their disappointing loss to the Hawks on Friday night.

The Swans have only lost to the Hawks since Round 6 but will have their own concerns in the midfield with Josh Kennedy likely to miss through injury. I just think the Swans have more ability to cover the loss of Kennedy with the likes of Parker, Hannebery and Heeney to run through the midfield.

Dangerfield gets it done around the ground and in front of goal for the Cats and I think the loss will be too much to cover, especially on a six-day break.

TIP: Sydney to win – $1.90 at Ladbrokes

Greater Western Sydney vs Melbourne (Saturday 1.45pm AEST)
It’s been almost impossible to get a read on the Demons over the past few months they have alternated wins and losses in their last six games and boast some great wins over the likes of West Coast and Port Adelaide in the process but also suffered a terrible loss to North Melbourne on the weekend. It sums up the AFL this season in that anyone can win on their day, which is why we give Melbourne a massive chance here against a battered GWS team.

GWS limped over the line against Fremantle on the weekend and will get their second ‘home’ game in a row here on Saturday afternoon. The match will be played at Manuka Oval in the ACT which should be more of a home game for the Giants but if Melbourne’s form is anything to go by they should be in line for a massive upset here.

Both forward lines will be hindered by the loss of Jeremy Cameron and Jesse Hogan respectively but the Giants could be bolstered by the return of ruckman Shane Mumford and the possible club debut for Brett Deledio. We like the Giants to get over the line here.

TIP: GWS -13.5 – $1.92 at Ladbrokes

Richmond vs Hawthorn (Sunday 3.20pm AEST)
One of the games of the round sees Richmond and Hawthorn square off at the MCG on Sunday afternoon. There are massive finals aspirations on the line for the Hawks here, who can’t afford to drop another game if they want to make the eight. They currently sit just 6 points behind 6th spot with a massive log jam in between.

While Richmond have likely already locked up their finals spot, they’ll want to keep winning to secure a top four position and the double chance. They currently sit four points clear of Port Adelaide in 5th.

Tough game to pick, the Tigers haven’t put a foot wrong since their Round 16 embarrassment against the Saints. While the Hawks have lost and drawn one in their last six games, they came at the hands of the Cats and Giants respectively and they have beaten some quality teams in Adelaide and Sydney over that journey. Look like one of the better teams in the league at the moment and we like them to beat Richmond.

TIP: Hawthorn to win – $2.15 at Sportsbet

Adelaide vs Port Adelaide (Sunday 4.40pm AEST)
The Adelaide Derby will get it’s second instalment of the year on Sunday as the Crows and Power face off to close out the round. Both teams played in thrillers on the weekend with the Power defeating St Kilda with the last kick of the day and the Crows drawing level with Collingwood with the final kick.

Both teams will be without star small forwards in Chad Wingard and Eddie Betts respectively while Adelaide have a few more injury concerns in Brad Crouch and Jake Lever to worry about. Port Adelaide have managed to maintain a high position on the ladder all year without really troubling any of the best teams in the league. They still only boast one win against a top eight team and we expect the Crows to be too strong here.

TIP: Adelaide -11.5 – $1.92 at Sportsbet
