afl round 18
Profitable week for us last weekend as we hit on 3/5 tips with the St Kilda Essendon game being our downfall. We’ll look to back it up this weekend as we present our AFL Betting Tips for Round 18 below.

AFL Round 18 Betting Tips

Adelaide vs Geelong (Friday, 7.50pm AEST)
Both Adelaide and Geelong are coming off impressive wins in Round 17 against Melbourne and Hawthorn respectively. Geelong had a scare in the game with Patrick Dangerfield suffering a leg injury, however, the Brownlow favourite returned to the ground and kicke d5 goals to lead the Cats to victory.

Dangerfield couldn’t walk after the game on Saturday but will make an effort to get up for the game against the Crows. Adelaide are also with injury concerns as star midfielder Rory Sloane was concussed in their game against the Demons and will need to pass the concussion test to suit up this weekend.

Tough game to pick, the potential loss of Dangerfield will hurt way more than that of Sloane, and the home field advantage has me leaning slightly towards the Crows here. The bookies have the Crows favoured by a fair margin but im picking this one to stay relatively close.

TIP: Adelaide 1-39 – $2.20 at Sportsbet

Essendon vs North Melbourne (Saturday, 1.45pm AEST)
The Bombers looked unstoppable in their game against the Saints last weekend, blowing them out of the water by 61 points. Joe Daniher strengthened his case as the best young forward in the league, booting four goals and taking the lead in the Coleman for a brief period.

Essendon face the Kangaroos on Saturday, who have the longest losing streak in the league at six games and could be in danger of slipping to last spot on the ladder with a loss. North Melbourne would have condeded to missing the finals a long time ago and from here it’s just about getting a high draft pick.

The Dons are now firmly entrenched in the battle for the last few spots in the eight and can’t afford to drop a game here. If they bring any sort of the form they had against the Saints they should win this one comfortably.

TIP: Essendon 40+ – $2.70 at CrownBet

Sydney vs St Kilda (Saturday, 7.25 AEST)
It’s safe to say that St Kilda desperately needed that win against the Bombers on the weekend. They now sit outside the eight on percentage and have arguably one of the hardest runs home in the league. They’ll face Sydney away this week followed by Port Adealide away, West Coast, Melbourne away and Richmond away. If you bank on the North Melbourne game as a win, they’ll likely have to beat at least 2 if not 3 of the above mentioned teams. Tough task.

Sydney are the most in form team in the comp at the moment. Apart from their slip up to the Hawks in Round 10, the Swans are undefeated since their 0-6 start to the season. They are now third favourites to win the flag with many punters backing them to climb as high as the top four.

The Saints caught the Swans at an unlucky time in their first matchup back in Round 9. Sydney were victorious by 50 points has Buddy Franklin bagged 4 goals. If anything is in favour of the Saints here it should be the smaller SCG ground, which will suit their high pressure and tackling game. We think that might keep it closer than expected, but we are still backing the Swans here.

TIP: Sydney 1-39 – $2.10 at Sportsbet

Richmond vs Greater Western Sydney (Sunday, 1.10pm AEST)
After a horrid loss to the Saints two weeks ago, the Tigers bounced back last weekend to defeat the Lions by 31 points at Etihad. It wasn’t the most convingcing of wins but it’s the type of pressure game that Richmond have lost in recent history.

They’ll get a much tougher test this week as they face the Giants at the MCG. The Giants are probably the most injured team in the league at the moment, with Jeremy Cameron being added to the long list of injuries that includes Tim Taranto, Stephen Coniglio, Matt de Boer, Harrison Himmelberg and Ryan Griffen just to name a few.

The injuries give Richmond a massive chance in this match, however, GWS were still able to take it up to Sydney on the weekend which is a testament to their depth. If it was up in Spotless Stadium we’d have to side with the Giants but the Tigers should be fired up at the MCG, hunting a massive scalp. GWS have opened as favourites but we like the Tigers to cover here.

TIP: Richmond +8.5 – $1.92 at Ladbrokes
