2017 AFL Round 13 Betting Tips

June 13, 2017 by Posted in AFL Tips

A disappointing weekend in Round 12 saw us hit on just 1 of our 4 AFL betting tips as underdogs in Sydney, Gold Coast and Essendon all got up. We’ll be looking to improve on that this weekend as we present our Preview and Betting Tips for Round 13 of the AFL Season below.

West Coast vs Geelong (Thursday 6.10pm AEST)
The Eagles and the Cats will open Round 13 on Thursday night at Domain Stadium. Both are coming off their bye rounds so should be feeling fresh although the Eagles may still be without star forward Josh Kennedy, who is listed as questionable for this game. Apart from that the Eagles should nearly be at full strength with Scott Lycett eyeing a return while the Cats have no injuries to key players.

It’s a crucial game for the Eagles, who find themselves out of the top eight on percentage but can force their way back in with a win here. The Eagles have lost three games on the trot to Essendon, GWS and Gold Coast and can’t afford to drop another one here.

The Cats took advantage of their three home games in a row preceding their bye, taking down three good teams in the Bulldogs, Port Adelaide and Adelaide to cement themselves in the top four. Travelling to West Coast hasn’t always been their strongest suit but Kennedy ‘needing a miracle to prove fitness’ the cats should have too much firepower here.

TIP: Geelong 1-39 – $2.37 at Sportsbet

North Melbourne vs St Kilda (Friday 7.50pm AEST)
The Saints could desperately use a win after dropping their last three matches to Sydney, Western Bulldogs and Adelaide. The game against North Melbourne comes at the perfect time for the Saints who need a victory to stay in touch with the top eight. The Saints sit on 20 points, just four behind a host of teams inside the top eight while the Roos can draw level with a win here.

Nick Riewoldt will come back into the side after an extended 3-week rest around the bye round. It will be interesting to see which, if any, of the three key forwards in Tim Membrey, Josh Bruce or Paddy McCartin make way for the six time Saints B&F winner.

The Saints have been North Melbourne’s bunny of sorts in recent times, going down to them on their last 7 occasions. However, they are a different outfit this year and while they have suffered three pretty average defeats in the last three games, we are predicting them to bounce back here with another strong Friday night Etihad performance to match there win over the Giants earlier in the year.

TIP: St Kilda 1-39 – $2.40 at Sportsbet

Richmond vs Sydney (Saturday 1.45pm AEST)
The Tigers will be hunting their 3rd win in a row on Saturday when the host the Swans at the MCG. After three heartbreaking losses in a row, the Tigers bounced back with great wins over Essendon and North Melbourne and now have the less than enviable task of facing a Sydney side that seems rejuvenated after their poor start.

The Swans have won four of their last five games, the highlight of which was a 44-point demolition job of the Bulldogs last weekend. Dan Hannebery has been a catalyst for the resurgence, scoring over 100 fantasy points in all of their last 5 games while the return of Dane Rampe and Isaac Heeney has been instrumental.

It’s a really tough game to pick, however, the Richmond hype is a little too premature in my opinion. When we picked them to make the eight at the start of the year, it was on the back of the easiest schedule in the league and they have yet to knock off any of the premier teams in the comp, which now includes Sydney. Back the Swans to win here.

TIP: Sydney to win – $1.82 at Ladbrokes

Western Bulldogs vs Melbourne (Sunday 3.20pm AEST)
The Demons had a massive win over the Magpies in the annual Queens Birthday match on Monday. They’ll be looking to back it up with another win on Sunday as they travel to Etihad to take on the Bulldogs.

The Bulldogs looked extremely lacklustre in Sydney on Friday night as they went down to the Swans by 44 points and have a few injury concerns going into this game with Tom Boyd, Dale Morris, Robert Murphy and Clay Smith all likely to be sidelined.

The Demons looked absolutely clinical at times against the Pies but lacked finishing power, kicking 14 behinds for the match. Ruckman Max Gawn could come back into the side this weekend which will be huge against a Dogs team that lacks a top tier ruckman. We like the Dees to keep this one close or even snatch it.

TIP: Either team under 15.5 – $2.70 at Sportsbet
