2017 AFL Round 12 Betting Tips
We are back with another round of AFL Betting Tips. Unfortunately we went just 1-3 in our tips last weekend but we’ll be looking to improve on that number as we present our Round 12 AFL Preview and Betting Tips below.
Sydney Swans vs Western Bulldogs (Thursday 7.20pm AEST)
Another Thursday night game kicks off the round this weekend as the Swans host the Bulldogs in Sydney. Both teams will be coming off the bye so should be fairly fresh, however, the Bulldogs are still nursing some injuries from earlier in the year. Robert Murphy, Josh Dunley, Stewart Crameri and Clay Smith will all miss extended weeks while Matthew Boyd is listed as questionable for the clash.
Sydney come into the game with a relatively good-looking injury list, with just Harry Cunningham a definite out while Kieren Jack, Jake Lloyd, Jarrad McVeigh and Sam Reid all to undergo tests. The Dogs looked back to their best as they dispatched St. Kilda in Round 10 and have beaten the Swans the last four times they have played.
It’ll be a massive test for the Swans but they can make a big statement with a win here while a loss all but ends their chances of playing finals. Six of the Dogs 10 games so far this year have been inside a 16 point margin and we think this should be another close one.
TIP: Either team under 15.5 – $2.50 at Sportsbet
Adelaide Crows vs St Kilda Saints (Friday 7.50pm AEST)
The Saints will likely get Nick Reiwoldt back in the line-up this weekend after taking an extended by round by missing the Western Bulldogs game through rest. They should also get Jimmy Webster back from a hand injury to sure up their backline. The defence will need all the help it can get when it comes up against the No.1 offence in the league in the Crows.
Adelaide went down to Geelong in Round 11 in a hard-fought contest but will welcome the return to Adelaide Oval this week, especially against the Saints who are one of the worst travelling teams in the league.
The Saints have lost their last five games against Adelaide by a margin of 65 points and with Adelaide playing such good football this year we can’t see that trend changing on Friday night.
TIP: Adelaide -37.5 – $1.92 at Ladbrokes
Hawthorn Hawks vs Gold Coast Suns (Saturday 1.45pm AEST)
Hawthorn backed up a great win over Sydney in Round 10 with a terrible performance against the Power in the Round 11 opener on Thursday night. The Hawks scored just 3 points to half time and ended the game going down by 51 at Adelaide Oval. They’ll return to the MCG this weekend to take on the Suns who had a massive win over the Eagles at home on the weekend.
The Suns are as healthy as they have been all season with just Sam Day, Callum Ah Chee and Jarrod Harbrow set to miss this game. At it’s best their midfield is elite with the likes of Gary Ablett, Aaron Hall, David Swallow, Mat Rosa and Michael Barlow running through there while Tom Lynch has once again proved himself as the most prized young forward in the comp.
The Suns were really impressive last weekend but have struggled in Melbourne throughout the season so far with just 1 win away from home. Back the Hawks to get it done here in a close game.
TIP: Hawthorn 1-39 – $2.30 at Sportsbet
Essendon Bombers vs Port Adelaide Power (Saturday 7.25pm AEST)
The Bombers will host the Power in the lone Saturday night game this weekend as Port Adelaide look to make their top 4 push with a win. The Power were dominant over the Hawks last weekend at home and this weekend surprisingly mark the first time they have played in Melbourne all year. They will rightfully start as favourites after a great start to the season and should get gun mid/forward Chad Wingard back in this week.
Essendon were valiant in their loss to Greater Western Sydney last weekend, going down by just 16 points at Spotless Stadium. The Bombers have been competitive in nearly all of their losses this season and a win here could propel them into the top eight ahead of their bye round next week. The Bombers are in a great position injury-wise at the moment with just Darcy Parish missing from their best 22 and should make a real shake of this.
I think the Bombers are a chance to keep it relatively close but the bookies seem to share that opinion, opening the line at just 15. I’ll back Port to cover that but not by much.
TIP: Port Adelaide -15.5 – $1.92 at Ladbrokes
