2017-18 EPL: Tottenham vs Arsenal Preview

February 10, 2018 by Posted in Soccer Tips

EPL Wenger and PochNo matter what their positions in the Premier League table are, the North London derby between Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal is always a fixture to look forward to. With a new-look Arsenal enthusing confidence among the Gunners faithful and the Spurs looking to gain revenge over their 2-0 loss in the reverse fixture, this is one match everyone is eagerly awaiting. This most eye-catching clash will be played at Wembley on Saturday, February 10.

Season so far

Tottenham have had a mixed season so far and are on the fringes of Champions League qualification places. Over 26 games, Spurs find themselves fifth in the table (49 pts, W14, D7, L5) and are just a point behind Chelsea in fourth. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have picked up form recently and after the 4-1 loss to Manchester City in mid-December, they have gone eight Premier League matches unbeaten (W5, D3).

If the Tottenham’s season is considered mixed, it would be nothing compared to the roller-coaster ride of Arsenal. The Gunners are sixth in the table (45 pts, W13, D6, L7) and four points behind their hosts of the day. It is their indifferent form that has seen them drop a lot of points recently. Their last 12 Premier League matches have seen them lose only thrice, but win only four with five draws! That they have dropped 19 points over these matches tells a lot about their poor plight.

However, there is hope that this new-look side will change Arsenal’s fortunes. The arrival of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has left the Gunners faithful gushing with hope as the duo is expected to recreate their partnership from their time at Borussia Dortmund.

Key Stats and battles

Spurs have lost only once in their last seven Premier League games against Arsenal (W2, D4), which incidentally came earlier in this season.

Harry Kane has scored six goals in six Premier League games against Arsenal and the only time he failed to score in that period is in the reverse fixture of this season. He has four goals in three home games against the Gunners.
Arsenal have won just three of their 13 away matches in the Premier League (W3, D4, L6).

Spurs have the second-best defensive record in the league conceding just nine goals.

For all the talk about ‘Wembley hoodoo’, Spurs have remained unbeaten in 12 Premier League games since the opening day loss to Chelsea (W8, D4)

It is tough to separate these sides, but on current form Spurs start as favourites. They are favoured to win the match at odds of $2.04 at William Hill and that looks the bet to take. Arsenal are offered odds of $3.75 to win the game while a draw is favoured at odds of $3.75.

Both sides have good firepower in the final third which makes the option of backing goals from both sides very practical. The odds offered are $1.44 at Ladbrokes.

Kane looks a strong pick to find the net anytime, back him at odds of $1.83 at Ladbrokes.
