2017-18 EPL: Liverpool vs Manchester City Preview

January 13, 2018 by Posted in Soccer Tips

The biggest question doing rounds in the English Premier League (EPL) for quite some time is will Manchester City lose a match? They were supposed to be given a run by their city rivals United in the derby, which was a tense affair won by City. They now get ready for a trip to the Merseyside to face an in-form Liverpool side.
Can the Reds topple the league leaders? The Anfield stadium on Sunday, January 14th will reveal the answer.

Season so far

Liverpool have been one of the most attacking sides in the league and are hence seen as realistic candidates to halt the Pep Guardiola’s side. The Reds are fourth in the table after 22 games (44pts, W12, D8, L2) and are just three points from the second placed United. Eighteen points separate them from the leaders City!

However, their form coming into this crucial fixture is top draw! Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 13 matches (W9, D4, L0) in the Premier League. They have the second-best attacking unit in the league, having notched up 50 goals so far.

For City, it is a surreal ride so far that puts them top of the league (62pts, W20, D2, L0) with a whopping 15-point advantage over United. It has been an unbeaten Premier League season so far and it will take a miracle to stop that!

Key Stats and battles

Liverpool have lost only once to City in their last seven matches (W2, D4, L1), but that was a heavy 5-0 loss at the Etihad Stadium earlier in the season.

City have not done the league double against Liverpool in over 80 years. City’s unbeaten Premier League run currently stands at 30 games, which is bettered only by two teams in the history – Arsenal (49 matches in 2003-04) and Chelsea (40 matches in 2004-05).

Prediction

It can’t get bigger than this, isn’t it! Two of the most attacking teams in England coming face-to-face, this must be one of the best adverts of the Premier League. We expect Liverpool to put up stiff resistance and may even surprise by picking points from this fixture. Back ‘Draw No Bet’ Liverpool at odds of $2.20 (Sportsbet).

TIP: Liverpool (draw no bet) – $2.20 at Sportsbet

The easier option is to back both sides finding the back of the net – considering their penchant to score goals. Back this pick at odds of $1.44 (Sportsbet).

TIP: Both teams to score – $1.44 at Sportsbet

Though Mohamed Salah has a slight groin niggle, he should start for the hosts and play a vital role for them. Back the Egyptian to score anytime at odds of $2.30 (William Hill).
