2017-18 EPL: Arsenal vs Manchester City Preview

March 1, 2018 by Posted in Soccer Tips

Arsenal will be gunning for revenge, when they welcome Manchester City to the Emirates Stadium in the English Premier League on Thursday, March 1st. Having already lost in the Carabao Cup final last weekend, the Gunners will hope to lift the spirits of their deflated fans with a win.

Season so far

Arsenal have had a bitter campaign so far and are sixth in the Premier League table after 27 games (45 pts). They are ten points behind Tottenham Hotspur in fourth – having played a game lesser – which puts them in trouble in the Champions League qualification race. The worry for manager Arsene Wenger is that another season outside the top-four is a distinct possibility!

Manchester City top the standings with 72 points from 27 games and have a 13-point advantage over second-placed Manchester United which they can stretch to 15 with a win at the Emirates. Pep Guardiola is chasing three titles – they are still alive in the Champions League – and will look to keep continuing their winning run.

The match is significantly important for Arsenal considering their fading top-four chances. City can do without a win in this fixture, but this Pep’s side isn’t known to be taking the field with anything but a win in mind.

Key Stats and battles

Manchester City haven’t won at the Emirates since 2013. The results in their last seven meetings between these sides tilt slightly towards City (W3, D2, L2).
At home this season, Arsenal’s games have seen an average of 3.84 goals per game.
Manchester City have not won away from home in their last three trips (D2, L1), but are still the best travelling side in the league this season (32 pts, W10, D2, L1).

Only once in their 13 away games did City fail to find the back of the net. In nine of those games, they have scored two or more goals.
Arsenal lost only once at home this season (3-1 defeat to United) and in 11 of their 13 home games, they scored more than one goal.

There is so much talk about Wenger’s job considering the fair chance that Arsenal will be out of the Champions League for another season. This is a game that should help him win back some of his critics, but Pep’s city won’t be sympathetic. The best Wenger can expect is a draw. Back City draw no bet at odds of $1.40 (Ladbrokes).

TIP: Manchester City (draw no bet) – $1.40 at Ladbrokes

Back Sergio Aguero to be anytime goal scorer at odds of 1.95 (Ladbrokes).

TIP: Sergio Aguero to score – $1.95 at Ladbrokes
