2016 Wimbledon: Women’s Final Betting Preview
We are at the door step of finding the winner of 2016 Wimbledon Women’s singles with World number one Serena Williams set to clash with number four seed Angelique Kerber. This match will be played on July 9 which is a Saturday afternoon.
This will be a repeat of the Australian Open final earlier this year when the German stunned the American to lift her maiden Grand Slam trophy. Serena will have one eye on breaking her mini barren run at the Slams as much on revenge against Kerber.
Serena cruised to the finals as expected and her performance in the semi-finals against Elena Vesnina was of the top drawer. She not just annihilated Vesnina 6-2 6-0, Serena dominated every aspect of the game sending warning to her finals opponent.
The world number one has now reached the finals of the first three Slams of the year – second time in consecutive years. But she comes on the back of two final losses – the first time ever she lost consecutive Slam finals. Her consistency at the Grand Slams makes her a firm favorite for the title, though!
Kerber had a quiet and unassuming run to the finals that included a gutsy 6-4 6-4 victory over Venus Williams. Kerber’s quality was enough to punish the erratic Venus and the German will hope to continue that form against the younger Williams sister.
Serena leads the head-to-head record 5-2 but it was Kerber who won the last match – Australia Open finals. The pressure is surely on Serena as she continues her march to Grand Slam # 22. Serena sorted her serving problems out and looks impenetrable with her serve. But take nothing away from the German who has reached the finals without dropping a set. If she can keep Serena under check and dictate terms, the American will have a tough time.
Serena is an overwhelming favorite in the bookies’ market too which is why there isn’t much value on her win. An aggressive bet would be on Kerber emerging champion – odds at $3.75 offered by Ladbrokes. It could go all the way and the result may be decided only in three sets.
