2016 Wimbledon Open Women’s Semi Final Preview

July 6, 2016 by Posted in Betting Tips

Tennis’ biggest Grand Slam has reached the semi-final stage and we are left with four women who will fight it out for a chance to reach the Wimbledon final. All four look good to progress but there is place for only two. Who will it be?

Serena Williams vs Elena Vesnina

Serena and Grand Slam semi-finals have become synonymous. This would be the World number one’s eight consecutive semi-final and 32nd in total. There’s no doubting the ability or the resolve of the American who seems to find new energy every time she’s playing a Grand Slam. For someone of her pedigree, three consecutive Slams without a title is a big disappointment.

The Russian is unseeded here but has surpassed all expectations. For someone who started the year ranked no. 115, Vesnina has shown tremendous skill and grit to fight into the top 30. This is her first Grand Slam semi-final and managing nerves will be as tough for her as playing a rampaging Serena.

Stranger things have happened to Serena recently but she looks good to progress. Markets aren’t offering much on her win but if you are aggressive, punt on Vesnina taking it to three sets at odds of 4.5 with Ladbrokes.

Angelique Kerber vs Venus Williams

The German fourth seed is into her first Wimbledon semis and fourth overall in Grand Slams. She was one of the pre-tournament favorites to challenge Serena and lived up to the expectations so far. She’s yet to drop a set and has steadily improved as the tournament progressed.

Venus reaching the semi-finals is a pleasant surprise. For the eight-seeded American, this will be her first Grand Slam semi-final since the 2010 US Open. There are doubts over her ability to last the full match but just like her younger sister, adversities seem to bring the best out of Venus. Don’t count her off!

This promises to be an exciting match and the German could have slight edge considering the physical state of Venus. Back Kerber at odds of $1.4 with Ladbrokes to win.
