2016 Wimbledon Open Men’s Semi Final Preview

July 8, 2016 by Posted in Betting Tips

Roger FedererFor the first time in many years, there is no Novak Djokovic in the running for the Wimbledon title, sparking hopes of a title win for the remaining contenders. This makes the 2016 Wimbledon Men’s semi-finals very interesting and wide open. We preview the action in store for us.

Roger Federer vs Milos Raonic

There is no doubt that Federer is the emotional crowd favourite here. This is his 40th Grand Slam semi-final but he had to stage a miraculous comeback in the quarters against Marin Cilic. The seven-time Wimbledon Champion will hope to make best use of Djokovic’s exit to gun for his 18th Grand Slam title. However the physical and mental exertions of a tough five-setter may put a question mark on his progress.

The Canadian Raonic has been a revelation in this tournament, thanks to his association with John McEnroe. His talent has never been in question but his ability to walk that extra mile in a Grand Slam is still a concern. But the Raonic of 2016 is a different player and could spring a huge surprise here.

Federer dominates Raonic in his career meetings and even got past him at the same stage two years ago. But Raonic looks much more composed this year and could stun the Swiss maestro. Back Raonic at odds of $2.38 at Ladbrokes to reach the final.

Andy Murray vs Tomas Berdych

Murray is the local favorite and would be licking his lips at the anticipation of another final at Wimbledon. With all due regards to Berdych, Murray has the game to win this contest and should do so. The only worry for him would be the impact of the grueling encounter against Jo Wilfried Tsonga and the Scot would do well not to underestimate his opponent.

Berdych is often described as one of the best players of his generation to have never won a Grand Slam. The big-serving Czech has progressed silently and serenely to the semis and will offer a test of Murray’s ability. He may have lost the last four encounters with Murray but Berdych knows that if he can capitalize on the nervousness created by home support, there could be a chance for him.

There isn’t much in the market on Murray winning but if you are aggressive, look at Berdych stretching this to five sets at odds of $6 at Ladbrokes.
