2016 US Open Mens Betting

The final Grand Slam tournament of 2016, the US Open begins at the Flushing Meadows, New York from the 29th of August. As the Grand Slam season gets ready to wind off, we look forward to what’s in store on the men’s side of action.

Defending Champion and World number one Novak Djokovic has had a brilliant season – until the Wimbledon tournament, at least. His early exit at Wimbledon was followed by a first-round exit at the Rio Olympics, charring his otherwise perfect season. The early departures could, however, prove to be a blessing in disguise for the Serb’s preparations to the final slam. At odds of $2 (CrownBet), he remains a huge favorite to end the final Slam as a winner. Backing him looks the best punt for now.

Trying to spoil his party will be the Wimbledon and Rio Olympics champion Andy Murray (pictured above). The Scot has reached all the finals of the Grand Slams so far and would be a huge punt to do so once again at New York. His recent form at the US. Open doesn’t make good reading, but the 2012 champion should be a threat to Novak. At odds of $3 (CrownBet), Murray is one of the top favorites for the title.

With Roger Federer missing out due to a knee injury, the onus of threatening the top two falls on Stan Wawrinka and Rafael Nadal. But it is tough to see them progressing beyond semi-finals, at best. Of the rest, keep an eye on the ever-improving Milos Raonic. The Canadian has reached the finals of Wimbledon and even had a good rest following his withdrawal from the Olympics. Perhaps back him to reach the finals here, provided he gets a favorable draw.
Marin Cilic had a great run-in to the tournament annexing the Cincinnati title at the expense of Murray. Cilic is hugely inconsistent, but on his day can knock out any opponent. Juan Martin Del Potro received a wild card after his exploits in Rio and will be a dangerous customer for every other participant.

From the Australian side, expectations will be high on 14th seed Nick Kyrgios, but the volatile Aussie star will be a long shot for the title. But with a favorable draw, he could be a punt to reach quarters. Same goes to the other Aussie star Bernard Tomic who could be primed for upsetting one or two opponents.

The US Open may well be the last calendar slam of 2016 but the recent form and pedigree of the stars makes it as exciting as any. Get set to be aced by the action!
