2016 UEFA Euro Semi Final Preview & Tips
The 2016 UEFA Euros has moved to the last four stage and the action promises to be riveting as a place in the grand finals is up for grabs. We look ahead to the action in store.
Portugal vs Wales
Portugal have not had a convincing path to the semis. After three draws in the group stages, they qualified to the knockouts only as one of the best third-placed sides. Their knockout wins over Croatia and Poland were more a testimony of their defensive capabilities than anything else. With very little to offer in the final third – despite the presence of Ronaldo – the Portuguese have banked on suffocating the opponents opportunities to win matches.
Wales have managed to punch above their weight and go above their supporters’ expectations with some solid performances. Even with Bale in the side, they displayed a strong team ethic that reflects in their assured style. From topping the group to shocking hot favorites Belgium in the round-of-16, Wales have done everything to be counted dangerous by the opponents.
Portugal will look to stifle Wales and on current form, a draw in regular time looks most likely.

France vs Germany
Hosts France has been one of the consistent teams of this tournament. They have been tested in all the matches but displayed enough quality in their ranks to come out victors. Their best performance came against Iceland in the quarters with a 5-2 thrashing highlighting the depth and variety in their attack. They still aren’t a complete side but the form of Dimitri Payet and Antoine Griezmann fuels hopes of a win.
Germany haven’t been their usual clinical self in this tournament but have done just enough to reach the semis. Their quarter-final win against Italy was a relief as they showed unusual nervousness in the penalties. The lack of depth in the forward line coupled with some key injuries could hamper their chances against a rampant France team.
It’s difficult to write off Germany in continental tournaments but this French squad looks all set for the finals and in front of their home crowd we think they will have the edge.
