Highlanders-vs-Hurricanes-Round-14-Super-Rugby

The 2016 Super Rugby season continues this week and we are entering the final stages of the regular season with just five rounds remaining before the knock out stages begin. Continue reading for our Super Rugby Round 14 Betting Tips.

Hurricanes vs Highlanders (Friday 5.35pm AEST)

The Hurricanes and Highlanders will go at it for the second time this season. This match is incredibly important for both sides to grab a victory as just one competition point separates last year grand finalists on the competition ladder. The winner of this match will take a massive step towards booking themselves a spot in the finals series whilst the loser will be stuck in the middle of a log jam and need to have a strong finish to the season to advance.

The Hurricanes have just finished a road trip in South Africa where they had mixed results. They played close to a perfect game against the Lions in a 50-17 bonus point victory but then the following week they had a lot of injuries that cost them the match and they fell 32-15 to the Sharks. The Hurricanes will need to turn up with the mentality and confidence that saw them fend off the Lions with ease on the road if they are to stand a chance in this contest.

Meanwhile the Highlanders have had a sudden rise up the ladder and have won their past three matches against tough opposition. They were able to defeat the Brumbies, fend off the Chiefs who were sitting on the top of the table and then snap the Crusaders nine-game winning streak at Christchurch. Their attack was clicking whilst their defence has won them games as they have held off constant onslaughts for long periods of time and then when they had the ball back in their hands they capitalised. We are predicting the Highlanders to be too strong in this one.

Waratahs vs Chiefs (Friday 7.35pm AEST)

This isn’t quite a do or die match for the Waratahs but they can probably only afford to lose one more game throughout the last month of the regular season. They are sitting on the top of the Australian conference but the Brumbies are sitting just one point behind them and are facing the Sunwolves this weekend and a win would be pencilled in for them.

The Tahs lost their sixth straight match to the Crusaders in Christchurch on the weekend and it was a disappointing match that they were never truly in. They didn’t threaten the Crusaders defence much and that can be contributed to the Tahs losing Kurtley Beale for the season and they clearly missed his x-factor in attack. Bernard Foley and Israel Folau will need to step up to fill the void left by Beale and create a spark for themselves and their team mates.

The Chiefs returned to winning ways last week, as they were too strong for the Rebels on home soil. Their attack was impressive in the opening half as they raced to a big lead and then they used their experience to control the rest of the match and never allow the Rebels to gain any momentum as their win was never in doubt.

The Tahs have a historically good record against the Chiefs and have an advantage in the head to head battle whilst they have only lost twice on home soil in the nine matches they have played in Sydney. However, we believe the Chiefs will overcome their poor record against the Waratahs and earn a victory in this one as the Tahs injuries will hurt them.

Blues vs Crusaders (Saturday 5.35pm AEST)

The Blues kept their slim hopes of reaching the finals alive on the weekend when they defeated the Force in Perth. However, they were forced to do it the hard way, as they were held scoreless in the second half and the Force made a comeback and reduced the lead to just four points. They managed to hold on but they can’t afford to have a performance like that this weekend otherwise they will be punished by the Crusaders.

The Crusaders returned to winning ways last week with a victory against the Waratahs after losing at home to the Highlanders the week before. They are currently sitting just one competition point behind the Chiefs in the New Zealand conference and are the topside out of the wild card teams. They have the best scrum in the competition and are a dominant side at the break down. They will force plenty of turn overs in this match and be able to score on the counter attack. The Blues will be affected by a long period on the road and it will cause them to lose this match.
