The 2016 Super Rugby season continues this weekend as we have reached round 12 of the competition. Continue reading as we offer our weekly Super Rugby Betting Tips.

Highlanders vs Crusaders (Friday 5.35pm AEST)

Friday night sees two big matches played that will have big implications on the final positioning of the New Zealand and Australian Conferences. In the first match it is the defending champions taking on the competition leaders in a block buster match. The Highlanders are starting to reach their best as they have picked up back-to-back victories against the Brumbies and then the Chiefs. It would have taken a lot of effort out of the side and they could become drained towards the end of this contest.

The Crusaders are by far the most in form side of the competition and since losing their opening match of this season by a small margin to the Chiefs, they have gone on an eight game winning streak and they will have the benefit of being able to rest their star players towards the end of their match against the Reds last week. They put a big score on their opponents and the match was secure. There were a lot of doubters surrounding the Crusaders as they entered this season as they were going to be without two club legends Dan Carter and Richie McCaw for the first time in over a decade. However, they have overcome the loss of those two players to put themselves on the top of the competition ladder.

The Crusdaers have the strongest scrum in the competition and have been able to dominate in that area and earn themselves a lot of crucial penalties. Their forward pack makes a huge impact at the breakdown and is successful at the line outs. This will limit the opportunities for the Highlanders throughout the match and it will be enough to see the Crusaders retain their winning streak but by a narrow margin.

Rebels vs Brumbies (Friday 7.45pm AEST)

The second match of a big Friday night for Super Rugby has the top of the Australian Conference the Brumbies up against the Rebels who sit two competition points behind them but with a game in hand. The Rebels have excelled this season and have begun to make a huge amount of development in what has been their best season since they entered the competition 5 seasons ago. Their young side now has a lot of experience and they have begun to attack with a lot of confidence whilst they have been able to rely on their defence on multiple occasions to get them over the line in tight matches. They were unlucky to miss out on a victory on the road in Auckland in their last start as they crossed for a try after the siren but they were ruled to have infringed on the play and it didn’t count. It was heartbreak for the side but they would have regrouped over their bye and they now have the opportunity to move on to the top of the Australian conference with a win on home soil.

However, the Brumbies were able to return to winning ways on the weekend as they defeated the Bulls in impressive fashion. Their defence was incredibly strong as they held the South African side to just six points throughout the match whilst they were able to pile on 23 points themselves. David Pocock returned to his best after being on the sidelines for three weeks through suspension. It will be a good match up between him and the young wallaby Sean McMahon but Pocock is a class above and will have a superior impact in this contest. His contribution at the breakdown, big hitting in defence, strong runs and work at the rock and maul is crucial to the success of the Brumbies and we are expecting him to lead his side to a victory in this one.

TIP: Brumbies 1-12 @ $2.60 with William Hill

Jaguares vs Sharks (Sunday 6.40am AEST)

In our final preview of Round 12, we will be backing the Sharks to earn their second victory against the Jaguares of the season. The Sharks had their best game of the season last week as they defeated the in form Hurricanes on home soil. Throughout the season they have won games on the back of their incredible defence but last week they chanced their hand and used their attacking weapons out wide to ensure they put on a big score line and on the back of that their defence was able to hold off the Hurricanes as they earned a crucial victory that kept them within striking distance of the top eight.

The Jaguares have earned just two victories throughout their inaugural season in Super Rugby and they are the only side that has lost to the Sunwolves. It has been a disappointing year for them as they were expected to push for a finals appearance as they have the majority of the Argentinian side in their squad, however their decision to constantly change their team line up has been their downfall as they haven’t been able to find a true combination and thus their attack has struggled all season long.

The Sharks don’t have a great record on the road this year, but they were competitive during their three matches in New Zealand against tougher opposition. If the Sharks bring their attacking mindset to this match they will win comfortably and their defence will be as strong as ever.

TIP: Sharks -0.5 @ $1.91 with Ladbrokes
