2016 NRL Round 9 Betting Tips
Penrith Panthers Vs Canberra Raiders (Saturday, April 30)
Last week the Raiders shifted gears and destroyed the Tigers for 80 minutes. When the final siren sounded, they had scored 60 points to the Tigers lowly 6. Jordan Rapana produced a ‘man of the match’ performance with four tries, five line breaks and 215 metres ran. This week they will look to their centers again for the strength that will allow their left and right sides to flourish in attack.
At present the only change to the Raiders is Frank-Paul Nuuausala being named to an extended bench.
The Panthers and their fans are getting excited with the return of James Segeyaro from his arm injury. He was injured the last time these two teams met in round one clash and he will be out for revenge. The Panthers so far this season have been on the losing end of some pretty tough games. From the five they’ve lost in close matches, unforced errors have been their downfall. Jamie Soward continues missing conversion attempts, kicking just 19 from 27 shot on goal is hurting his team’s record. There are several changes in the Panthers line up. James Segeyaro, Dean Whare come in to replace injured Te Maire Martin and Waqa Blake, with Sam McKendry named on an extended bench.
As with all the Panthers games this season, we expect this on to be close.

Manly Sea Eagles Vs North Queensland Cowboys (Saturday, April 30)
The Sea Eagles put together their fourth straight win over the weekend, but it did come at a cost. The now injury plagued team will head in to this one with out Brett Stewart and Tom Trbojevic. During their 26-10 victory over a dismal Knights, they left their run to the second half but were almost untouchable. Matt Parcell has been name on an extended bench.
The Cowboys, on the other hand, are sitting pretty in second spot on the ladder, leading the competition in points scored. They are the defending champions and are still one of the two stand-out teams in the competition this season. Its almost impossible to see the Cowboys losing this one. They are a class above the Sea Eagles and we wont have to wait long for them to show their dominance.
Bet On: North Queensland Cowboys 13+ – $2.30 at CrownBet
New Zealand Warriors Vs St George Illawarra Dragons (Sunday, May 1)
Coming off a tough victory against the Roosters last week, the Dragons head to Auckland with a new-found confidence. Their record in Auckland and against the Warriors will have them feeling pretty good. Beni Marshall was expected to return this week but has failed to make the list.
Jason Nightingale has been on fire for the Dragons this season, scoring 3 tries and consecutively running the ball 100+ metres per game.
The Warriors aren’t having the best season. They sunk to a new low last week when the Storm dismantled them 42-0. They’re hoping to fix their lineup, naming Albert Vete, James Gavet, Jazz Tevaga and Shaun Lane. Ligi Sao Simon Mannering and Tuimoala Lolohea have all been omitted.
This one’s interesting. The Warriors struggle in defense. The Dragons struggle in attack. The Warriors have a tendency to back up poor performances with tough victories. Pair that with the home field and travel advantages and we should see the Warriors walk away with the 2 points.
Bet On: New Zealand Warriors -4.5 – $1.90 Ladbrokes
Gold Coast Titans Vs Melbourne Storm (Sunday, May 1)
Last Monday Melbourne delivered a shattering blow to the Warriors, which left the rest of the league on notice. During the 80-minute onslaught the Storm attack was a torrential downpour. They crossed the line a staggering 8 times, while conceding zero points against. Tohu Harris and Cameron Munster were the stand out performers with a combined two tries, two line breaks and 403 metres gained. Coming up against the Titians this week will allow Melbourne’s current lineup to push the ball wide and attack quickly on the edges. Storm’s speed will be a huge advantage in this one. Felise Kaufusi has been named on an extended bench.
The Titans aren’t fairing so well. They started the season with a bang but have since dropped off going down in their last four outings. Last week they suffered a hard fought loss to the Bulldogs in a golden point showdown.
When these 2 teams met up in Round 2, the Storm were victorious and we expect the same result this week. Not many teams come close to storm when it come to fast starts. Titans tend to play a catch up style of football and the Storm will punish them for it.
Bet On: Melbourne Storm -2.5 – $1.92 at CrownBet
Cronulla Sharks Vs Brisbane Broncos (Sunday, May 1)
For me the Sharks are the standout performers of the season. I expected them to compete, but I didn’t expect they’d be sitting on 6 wins 2 losses after the first eight rounds. I’ve rambled about Benny Barba for a few weeks and he hasn’t disappointed me yet. He is fast returning to he Dally M winning form and has certainly cemented himself in the the full back position for the Sharks Heading in to this one the Sharks have named an unchanged line up. Confidence is high at the shire and rightly so. Their offseason recruiting has worked a charm with James Maloney and Chad Townsend producing some of their best football.
There isn’t much that needs to be said about the Broncos. They have established themselves as the team to beat this season and we don’t expect that to change in Round 9. They have had to adjust slightly with Andrew McCullough being ruled out for 6 weeks with a hamstring injury. Herman Ese’ese has been omitted, with Alex Glenn named in the second row and Travis Waddell on the bench.
Sunday night’s game is certainly one not to miss. We are expecting a thriller with both sides putting up some good points. Broncos in a close one!
Bet On: Brisbane Broncos 1-12 – $3.15 at Ladbrokes
