2016 NRL Round 8 Betting Tips
The term ANZAC gets thrown around a lot during this round each year. The history of the two great nations involved in the NRL is one built on teamwork, mate ship and resilience. Three characistics that make up a winning football team. Let’s see how this weekend pans out as we offer our NRL Round 8 betting tips.
Brisbane Broncos VS South Sydney Rabbitohs (Friday, April 22)
Where to begin. The Broncos are the top of the ladder. They’ve barely missed a beat this season, notching up good victories against the Eels, the Cowboys and the Titans. They’ve also handled the Dragons and the Knights easily, 26-0 and 53-0 respectively. As an attacking team, the Broncos are almost unrivalled. They never have a problem scoring and clearly don’t struggle in defence either. This week looks to be the same. As always coach Wayne Bennet has named the same 17. Why mess with perfection?
The Rabbitohs, meanwhile, are so topsy turvy this season. Based on their list there’s no reason they couldn’t crush Brisbane at Suncorp on Friday night. There is also a pretty big chance they forget they’ve got a game and don’t turn up.
Coming off back to back trips to Queensland, its hard to see the Rabbitohs winning on Friday night. Brisbane are consistent and brimming with confidence. The line looks like a safe play on this one.
Bet On: Brisbane Broncos -14.5 – $1.92 at Ladbrokes
Canberra Raiders VS Wests Tigers (Saturday, April 23)
This Round 8 game on Saturday night is potentially the most interesting contest of the round. The Raiders are coming off back-to-back losses after falling to the Eels on the road., while last week they opened the flood gate and let the Sharks make themselves at home.
The Tigers are also coming off back-to-back losses. Despite having plenty of opportunities, the Tigers lost to the Knight back in Round 6 and lost to the storm in a golden point battle on Sunday afternoon. The halves pairing of Mitchell Moses and Luke Brooks Is working as they average a combined 5 points per game, 1.9 try assists and around 100 running metres.
The Raiders line up is likely to change before Saturday’s game as currently they’ve named an extended bench including Clay Priest, Jarrad Kennedy and Mitchell Barnett.
The Tigers, however, have only name Sauaso Sue are a emergency. While the Tigers have lost the last two they were still competitive. This one will be close. The travel wont effect the Tigers. This one is going to be a tough. We like the Tigers in a tight 80-minute victory.
Bet On: Wests Tigers 1-12 – $4.20 at CrownBet
Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks VS Penrith Panthers (Sunday, April 24)
This season fullback Ben Barba has made his presence known at the Sharks. Last week he was the first try score in both the first and second half. He ran the ball 96 metres and threw in a pair of try assists for good measure.
The Sharks certainly aren’t struggling in attack this season, sitting third on the ladder with a 57-point differential. Coach Shane Flanagan made it clear at the beginning of the season that he would be simplifying everyone’s roles, and it is clearly working. James Maloney has been a fantastic inclusion for the Sharks. In the first 7 rounds this season he has kicked 26 conversions and crossed the line twice himself. Last weekend against the Raiders, Maloney kicked six goals from 7 attempts as well as scoring a huge try off the back of a big intercept pass in the 79th minute. This week Luke Lewis returns to the bench with Joseph Paulo being omitted.
The Panthers scrapped together a 20-16 victory over the Roosters on Monday night. As their third win of the season, it is clear they’ve still got a lot to work to do. Rookie Five-Eighth Te Maire Martin has been holding his own, but by his own admission he has plenty of room for improvement. The Panthers have named Elijah Taylor and Jeremy Latimore to an extended bench.
While the Panthers have put up some pretty convincing performances in the last month, the Sharks are going to be too much for them to handle. At home, with the strength of Cronulla’s attack ,we expect the Sharks to take home the two points.
Bet On: Cronulla Sharks -4.0 – $1.92 at CrownBet
