2016 NRL Betting

With Origin Game 3 in the rearview mirror it’s time to focus on the regular season with our 2016 NRL Round 19 betting tips.

St George Illawarra Dragons Vs Gold Coast Titans (Friday, July 15)

What was seen as a relatively soft hit by Greg Inglis on Josh Dugan during Origin Game 3 has resulted in Dugan breaking his jaw and requiring surgery. Along with Dugan, the Dragons will also be without the services of halfback Benji Marshall. These losses will see the Dragons reshuffle with Josh McCrone moving to the halves, Jason Nightingale will wear the number 1 at fullback and Kurt Mann will move across to the wing. They still look relatively strong in attack.

The Titans are completely revamping this week. They are welcoming back halfback Ashley Taylor, hooker Nathan Peats, fullback David Mead and centre Konrad Hurrell all back in the starting lineup. Cameron Cullen, Karl Lawton and Lachlan Burr have all been omitted. Taylor is a huge in for the Titans. The second year player has been dominant this season, averaging just under 4 points per game, 17 tackles and 42 metres.

Unfortunately, the loss of Josh Dugan and Benji Marshall will take an enormous toll. This week we’re tipping the Titans in a close one.

Tip: Gold Coast Titans 1-12 – $2.90 at Ladbrokes

South Sydney Rabbitohs Vs Brisbane Broncos (Saturday, July 16)

Adam Reynolds withdrew from Origin Game 3, but will take the field for the Rabbitohs on Saturday night. The Bunnies will also see the returns of the two big Englishmen Sam and George Burgess. The biggest impact for the Rabbitohs in this one will come from the loss of Greg Inglis as he has taken a early plea and been suspended for 3 matches after a shoulder charge on Josh Dugan which resulted in Dugan needing surgery on his jaw.

The Maroons looked tired on Wednesday night. Why is this important? Well, the Broncos players make up almost half the starting side, so with the exception of Corey Parker who has been suspended for one match, Sam Thaiday, Josh McGuire, Corey Oates and Darius Boyd will all be backing up after a tough Origin Series. That’s four of the most influential Broncos coming in sore.

The Bunnies are without GI, the Broncos are tired. Ultimately, its hard to see the Bunnies winning this one, but its not to hard to see it being a tight contest.

Tip: Brisbane Broncos 1-12 – $3.05 at CrownBet

Newcastle Knights Vs Melbourne Storm (Sunday, July 17)

Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk don’t like to miss games – especially when they are fit and in form. Melbourne Coach Craig Bellamy has stated he wants to rest the Origin and Australia stars before the end of the season. This week could be the week to do it. Storm are currently sitting in 2nd position on the ladder and are in fantastic form. Cameron Muster has missed a couple of weeks and is still unlikely to return this weekend.

More than any other team this season, the Knights just want the season to be over. The NRL is a long hard road, and Knights five-eighth Jarron Mullen has been watching from the sideline for months. Mullen has been named to make his return to NRL this week after a hamstring injury which has kept him off the field since round 8. Dane Gagai will be backing up after his Origin campaign.

This one is all Melbourne. The only question is how much they win by. If Cooper, Smith and Munster play they will destroy the Knights. If Munster plays, but Cooper and Smith are rested they’ll win with ease. If neither Cooper, Smith or Munster play, Storm will still win, but they will score less and will not look as refined. From the information we have, I’m going to assume Cooper, Smith and Munster wont be taking the field.

Tip: Melbourne Storm 1-12 – $3.60 at CrownBet

Sydney Roosters Vs Cronulla Sharks (Monday, July 1)

The streak lives on. The Sharks are now sitting on a 13-win streak and it doesn’t look like ending anytime soon. Four of the five Cronulla Origin players will be returning, while the fifth Andrew Fifita will miss one week after putting Gavin Cooper in a headlock. Darius Boyd might be the best fullback in the game, but Sharks’ fullback Ben Barba is clearly the fullback of the year. He simply dominates, currently averaging 2.75 points and over 100 metres per game. With the Inclusion of the origin Players, the Sharks have omitted Mitch Brown, Jesse Sene-Lefao, Kurt Capewell, Matt Mcllwick and Fa’amanu Brown.

The Roosters aren’t having a great season. They currently sit 15th on the ladder and don’t really look like they are going to be moving up to the pointy end any time soon. After a tough Origin series, Blake Ferguson looks likely to be recalled to the Rooster for Monday night. Aidan Guerra also survived Origin without any serious injury, but we expect him to be rested this week. Jackson Hastings has been omitted and Ryan Matterson will replace him at five-eighth. Mitchell Pearce continues to have an impact for the Roosters, but it will be in vain this week when they face off against the competition leaders.

The Sharks are the in-form team in the competition. The only way I can see the streak ending is if they get in their own way, become too arrogant and try to be overly flashy. Keep it simple boys and you’ll go all the way.

Tip: Cronulla Sharks 13+ – $2.72 at CrownBet
