2016 NRL Round 18

State of Origin isn’t over yet, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t some great games this weekend as we offer our 2016 NRL Round 18 betting tips.

Parramatta Eels Vs Sydney Roosters (Friday, July 8)

Where to begin. The Eels are still in the media for all the wrong reasons. Kieran Foran has reportedly quit the NRL thus leaving the Eels without their star Halfback. Foran suffered a season-ending injury earlier this year and has been going though some personal issues. This, along with the ongoing speculation about what Semi Radradra is planning, has the Eels in a very messy spot.

Coming off a tough loss to the sharks last weekend, the Eels are seeing their finals hopes slip away with each passing week. With Origin Game 3 next week, Michael Jennings has been omitted. Cody Nelson and Rory O’Brien have aslso been omitted. This sees Jeff Robson shift to halfback and Brad Takairangi and Tim Mannah to the centres and front row respectively.

The Roosters have struggled all season. Last week they had a tough fight with the Bulldogs. Eventually losing 20-24, the Roosters were in control for much of the first half. Mitchell Pearce was strong in his first game back. Pearce played 80-minutes, ran the ball 102 metres and made 25 tackles.

Aidan Guerra and Blake Ferguson are both out for Origin 3. Joseph Manu has been named on the wing with Chris Smith and Ryan Matterson named on an extended bench.

Canterbury Bulldogs Vs Wests Tigers (Saturday, July 9)

The Bulldogs will lose Josh Jackson and David Klemmer to Origin Game 3, while Greg Eastwood returns to the back row after being a game time late withdrawal last week. Brett Morris has been making the biggest impact for the Bulldogs. Since returning 2 weeks ago, he has scored 5 tries from 5 line breaks.

Coming off a close win over the Roosters last week, the Bulldogs will look to attack quickly and overpower the Tigers with their sheer size. Watching the Morris brothers this weekend will be where the action is. Josh has again been left out of the NSW Origin side and Brett is in fantastic form. They should light it up.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are losing their captain Aaron Woods, Robbie Farrah and their most lethal attacker James Tedesco. Jordan Rankin will move to fullback with Josh Addo-carr replacing him on the wing. JJ Felise and Joel Edwards will replace Woods and Farrah.

The Tigers will struggle in this one.

Penrith Panthers Vs Cronulla Sharks (Sunday, July 10)

The Sharks are sitting on top of the ladder. They are currently on a 12 game winning streak, are premiership favourites and are looking virtually unstoppable. Will Round 18 see the streak end?

Unfortunately for the Cronulla faithful, being on one of the best teams in the competition means coaches look at you for representative sides – as is the case this week. Origin Game 3 will see five Sharks suit up for NSW. They lose Paul Gallen, James Maloney, Andrew Fifita, Wade Graham and Jack Bird.

I have zero doubt the Sharks will rally to keep the streak going. Valentine Holmes comes back onto the wing, Fa’amanu Brown replaces Maloney at five-eighth, Matt Mcllwrick, Jesse Sene-Lefao and Kurt Capewell are all named on the bench.

The Panthers are also depleted. Josh Mansour and Matt Moylan are both at NSW camp. Zak Hardaker will debut in his first NRL game when he takes the field for Mansour on the wing. The Panthers aren’t in the best possible position to break the streak. Matt Moylan was originally dropped from the NSW side before being recalled on Thursday night. This will effect their preparation and potentially see the Sharks go 13-0.

Tip: Cronulla Sharks -4.5 – $1.90 at CrownBet
