2016 NFL Week 2betting tips

Week 1 of NFL action is now in the books and already the oddsmakers and punters are overreacting to performances. This has created some great betting opportunities for Week 2. Our best bets below.

Atlanta Falcons @ Oakland Raiders (6:25 AEDT Monday the 19th September)

The Falcons looked to have control of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week at home before Winston and Co got into their groove throughout the second half. They aren’t a great football team but they are solid. With Freeman anchoring the ground game, Matt Ryan has Sanu and of course Julio Jones as viable pass options. Put simply, this team should be able to score against average defenses.

The Raiders last week defended very poorly and were incredibly lucky to scrape past the New Orleans Saints. They conceded a whopping 423 passing yards! The pass interference call they received on the final drive was awful and then they were able to nail their two-point conversion and prevent Brees from getting the ball back. The Raiders are the offseason hype team but did little to live up to that hype in Week 1. We expect the Falcons can mix it with them offensively and keep it very close. We assessed the Raiders as 2.5 favourites at home and as the spread is falling comfortably over a field goal (3 points) we are happy to bet Atlanta.

Suggested Tip: Falcons +4.5 @ $1.91 at William Hill
Confidence level: 75%

New Orleans Saints @ New York Giants (3:00 AEDT Monday the 19th September)

The Saints as we mentioned above were unlucky not to win last week but face a sterner test this week on the road and against another solid offense. Eli Manning and the Giants receiving core will be licking their lips at the prospect of playing the Saints who’s struggles defensively continue.

The Giants couldn’t get the ball from Dallas last week but executed very well when it mattered highlighting the potency of the Manning, Beckham Jnr, Sheppard, Cruz and Jennings core. They should only improve coming back to MetLife Stadium where the emphasis will be on securing first-downs and keeping Drew Brees off the field. The spread looks 1.5 points too low on our ratings and with the recent additions on Defense who played very well against the Cowboys last week the Giants match up very well.

Suggested bet: Giants -4.5 @ $1.91 at William Hill
Confidence level: 70%

Tennessee Titans @ Detroit Lions (3:00 AEDT Monday the 19th September)

The Titans looked ready to cash last week before a late meltdown that resulted in them conceding two scores directly from turnovers late in the game. Their defense looked solid and kept Adrian Peterson under wraps.

Where they struggled was moving the chains and “putting the game away” against a fairly stout Minnesota defensive unit. They should have an easier time against the Lions who conceded 35 points last week against the Colts. They’ll do so with a heavy ground attack and hopefully with some more aggressive play calling. WE thought they were too timid against the Vikings.

Detroit on the other hand, were involved in an entertaining clash with the Colts and despite winning did should some areas of weakness. At this stage of the season for a team we haven’t projected to make the playoffs a spread of 6.5 seems way too high. We’ve rated it as -4 Detroit and happy to grab the extra points, this line should come in a touch.

Suggested bet: Titans +6.5 @ $1.91 at William Hill
Confidence level: 65%
