2016 NFL Preseason Betting Tips
It’s now less than three weeks until the NFL preseason matches commence.
Crazy isn’t it!
It’s been yet another hectic offseason of lineup changes, draft additions and huge contracts.
However, when it’s all said and done, the usual suspects look to be major players in the race for the Super Bowl.
Teams like Seattle, New England, Green Bay, Arizona and Pittsburgh all sit very high on our NFL Power Rankings.
So, what have you missed?
Tom Brady will miss the first four games of the regular season – officially!
Deflategate has been an ongoing circus but finally Brady has come out and said he’ll not be continuing his appeal against the decision.
Jimmy Garoppolo will be left to fill the big void left by Brady over the first four games. Patriots fans should still be very confident in their Super Bowl chances at $9.50 with Sportsbet. If Garoppolo can steer them into a 2-2 or 3-1 situation they’ll still be well on track to win their division once again.
The Cowboys surprised almost everyone when they drafted Ohio State running back Ezekiell Elliot with their first pick in the draft. Running back is turning into a fickle position in the National Football League and you have to wonder if they could not have selected Elliot with say pick 20 by trading down and beefing up elsewhere.
Nonetheless, expectations will be high in Dallas once again this season. We feel that the NFC East division is a battle between the Cowboys and the Giants.
The Houston Texans and the Miami Dolphins have executed the Running Back swap. Arian Foster is now a Dolphin but the aging player will still have an injury battle and his contract resembles that of a man who is not yet assured of a starting role.
Meanwhile, Lamar Miller will get plenty of work and the starting role in Houston for Bill O’Brien. The Texans also added Brock Osweiler from the Broncos in the offseason.
Their defense will be elite still and with the offensive additions we expect the Texans to improve from last year.
Early NFL Futures bets to consider
New York Giants over 8.5 wins @ $1.97 Sportsbet
The Giants were a Top 10 offense last year and this preseason have spent a stack of money filling in the gaping holes they had on defense.
While they still have some serious question marks with new coach Ben McAdoo they are in a weak division and have a relatively soft schedule.
We’ve projected them to go 10-6.
Tampa Bay over 7.5 wins @ $2.35 Bet365
Tampa Bay are likely to improve this year in a pretty weak division.
Jameis Winston showed signs he can be a Top 10 quarterback last year, they re-signed Doug Martin, they’ve got a very good young receiver in Mike Evans and have plenty of talent on the defensive side of the ball.
We’ve projected them to go 9-7.
Bonus College Football Futures Bet
Leonard Fournette @ $11 (Sportsbet) to win the Heisman Trophy.
LSU should be an improved program this year and look set to be a national Top 10 team.
$11 for Fournette to win at Sportsbet is well above what is the general consensus among Vegas bookies and other Australian corporates.
It really is a crazy good price for clearly LSU’s best player and a player who is more than capable of following in the path of last year’s winner Derrick Henry.
He’s got a lot more talent than Henry and a 2,000-yard season is not out of the question. He averaged more yards per game than Henry (162.8 to 147.9) and more yards per carry (6.1 to 5.6) last season and will only be improving.
