2016 NFL Conference Championship Betting Tips

There is only four NFL teams remaining as we have reached the Conference Championships as the final four sides will be fighting it out for a chance to compete on the biggest stage in American sport – the Superbowl. Find our Conference Championship Betting Tips below.

New England Patriots at Denver Broncos (Monday 7.05am AEDT)

This match was predicted to happen at the start of the season, however along the way it looked as if injury and lack of form would prevent the 17th instalment of Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady. In the head to head match up it is Brady who has the clear advantage winning 11 of 16 but Manning is 3-3 when playing on home soil.

For the Broncos to be victorious, they will have to be successful when running the ball. They were relatively successful in that area last week against the Steelers. CJ Anderson and Ronnie Hillman were able to rotate for each other which allows them to maintain their freshness when they are on the field. The home side will also need to ensure they catch the ball. Manning’s return to the starting line up could have been seen in a brighter light if his receivers were able to hold the ball when he hit them with open passes as their were multiple drops on third down that should have been converted.

Meanwhile the Patriots will enter this match as the favourites despite losing to the Broncos earlier in the season. They will enter the match on Monday morning with a healthier line up as Julian Edelman was able to return last week and he will improve with a match under his belt whilst Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady have had another week to heal. The Patriots offensive line will need to be strong this week as the Broncos will try to beat Tom Brady down and they need to be pressuring him throughout the match and get to him to force turnovers. It is likely that Brady will be finding Edelman for a lot of short and quick passes – similar to what they did in the Superbowl last year against the Seahawks strong defence. Unfortunately for Manning supporters, I can’t see the Broncos causing an upset in this one and he won’t earn a fairy tale finish, as the Patriots will reach back-to-back Superbowls.

Arizona Cardinals at Carolina Panthers (Monday 10.40am AEDT)

Quarterback Carson Palmer and the Falcons were lucky to escape with a victory last week as they almost threw away the game literally with bad decisions from Palmer. Twice he turned the ball over in the red zone, which is something you definitely can’t do in a playoff game. They were able to take the lead late in the match with a deflected pass that led to a touchdown and that could have easily been a third turnover. They also used poor clock management that gave Aaron Rodgers an extra 40 seconds to march his side down the field and eventually throw up a Hail Mary that forced the game into overtime. However, their experienced wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald was able to step up late in the match and he proved to be a game winner for the Cardinals.

Meanwhile the Panthers were able to blow the Seahawks off the paddock in the first half as they took a 31-point lead into the halftime break. Their biggest issue will be to put teams away this weekend and not let them back into the contest – although the Panthers were taking little risks and attempting to wind down the clock as much as possible, which proved to be a successful strategy. Their passing and running game was highly successful and it should be much of the same this weekend as it is hard to find a way to defend Cam Newton as he is incredibly confident in his game at the moment, can make deep or short passes and he is always a threat with his own running game. If is hesitant and throws poor balls similar to last week then this match could get ugly for the Cardinals. The Panthers will advance to the Superbowl for the first time since 2003.

TIP: Panthers -3 @ $1.95 with William Hill
