2016 French Open: Women’s Final Betting Preview
The 2016 French Open is one step away from finding out the Women’s Champion as the stage is set for an exciting finale at the Roland Garros. On Saturday June 4th, Serena Williams of U.S.A. will take on Garbine Muguruza of Spain.
World number one Serena Williams will have one eye on Steffi Graf’s open-era record of 22 major championships. This pair has already played out one Grand Slam final – the 2015 Wimbledon, which was won by the American. If the fourth seed Spaniard wins on Saturday, it would be her first Grand Slam Championship.
It has been one of those tournaments which hasn’t seen Serena in full flow. After blazing through the first two rounds easily, she was stretched a little in the
third round and quarter-finals. Truth be told, Serena was hardly at her best and was pushed to three sets by Yelina Putintseva in the quarters.
The semi-finals against unheralded Kiki Bertens also didn’t see Serena’s dominance. But it is a credit to her tenacity that she managed to get through. It would be a huge gamble to bet on Serena missing the title, but don’t forget what happened to her at the 2015 US Open semi-finals.
Muguruza on the other hand was a steady yet unspectacular presence in the lower half. Stretched to three sets in the first round, the Spaniard found her range in the next matches to slowly carve her way to the semis. It was expected that the more experienced Samantha Stosur of Australia would come through but Muguruza prevailed over Stosur in the semis.
Damp weather this year had run the schedule ragged which meant that the finalists will not have their usual day of rest before the Championship match. Serena is an unstoppable force these days – especially when it comes to Grand Slams. But Muguruza is one of the rising stars of today’s game and would be a tricky opponent. Serena has lost only one of her previous four matches to Muguruza but that lone loss was here at the French Open in 2014.
Expect Muguruza to take this to three sets and don’t be surprised if she turns out a winner. Bit of value on the Spaniard to win head-to-head at $2.50 too.
