2016 French Open: Men’s Final Betting Preview

June 5, 2016 by Posted in Betting Tips

Andy MurrayWorld numbers one and two feature in the Men’s final at the 2016 French Open on Sunday June 5. This will be the third meeting of the clay season between Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray with the two splitting their earlier meetings in Masters Finals.

World number one Djokovic is chasing his career Grand Slam which would be complete with the so-far-elusive French Open. For Murray this is his first Roland Garros final and he would want to make it memorable.

The Serbian had an easy and expected run to the final. His only resistance came in the fourth round match against Roberto Bautista Agut with the Spaniard stretching him to four sets. Incidentally that is the only set Djokovic has dropped in this year’s tournament. In the last two matches against Tomas Berdych and Dominic Thiem, he looked irresistible and on current form should fancy his chances in the final.

But Murray will not be an easy opponent in the finals. The Brit was on the verge of defeat in the first couple of rounds after dropping two sets in each of those matches. He weathered that early storm and then survived the threat of local sensation Richard Gasquet in the quarter finals. Even in the semis against defending champion Stanislas Wawrinka, he was in control for longer periods to earn his place in the finals.

Djokovic dominates his rivalry against Murray including 7-2 record in majors and 4-2 in finals. But Murray should take comfort from his recent win in Rome finals which was in straight sets. Djokovic is considerably a better clay-court player than Murray but the Brit has come by leaps and bounds in the recent past.

It will be interesting to see if Djokovic can continue his dominance or if Murray can start aggressively. Even though the courts have slowed down considerably, it may not be to Djokovic’s advantage as he found out to his vain in Rome. Having spent longer periods on the court, Murray may be at a slight physical disadvantage.

Djokovic is the hot favorite to lift the title but the last match result should give Murray some hope. This match could go all the way to five sets and Murray may end up surprising many people.

Tip: Andy Murray to win at $3.40 at Ladbrokes
