2016 AFL Round 8 Betting Tips
It was another week where we score two winners in Round 7, but both of those were over $2 and one was at $3.25 so we managed some handy profits. Hopefully we can manage some more winning AFL tips with our 2016 AFL Round 8 Betting Tips.
Hawthorn vs. Fremantle (Saturday 14 May, Aurora Stadium)
These two sides have enjoyed a healthy rivalry in recent years, playing off in many big finals including the 2013 Grand Final. While the Hawks are finding a way to win this season, the same cannot be said for Fremantle. The Dockers remain anchored to the bottom of the ladder yet to register a win in 2016. But an improved performance last weekend against GWS could inspire hope of being competitive in this match. Ross Lyon’s men traditionally place a stranglehold on opposition sides and the boys from the west have only lost one of their seven matches this season by more than 39 points, so expect them to stick with the Hawks for large portions of the match.
Tip: Hawthorn by 1 – 39 ($2.75) – CrownBet
Brisbane Lions vs. Collingwood (Saturday 14 May, Gabba)
When you are the biggest club in the country, you face harsh scrutiny when you start the season as poorly as Collingwood have. The Magpies were embarrassed last week losing to arch-rivals Carlton but with plenty of media attention throughout the week, expect the AFL powerhouse to bounce back hard against Brisbane. The trio of Steele Sidebottom, Scott Pendlebury and Adam Treloar will be too classy for their younger opponents who will be even further weakened with the loss of captain Tom Rockliff.
Tip: Collingwood 1 – 39 ($2.40) – CrownBet
Melbourne vs. Western Bulldogs (Sunday 15 May, MCG)
This Sunday afternoon encounter looms as a very intriguing matchup that will reveal a lot about both these sides. Despite the loss to St Kilda a fortnight ago, the Demons appear to be going from strength to strength, much to the delight of their patient fans. They overcame a slow start last week to dismantle the Gold Coast away from home and they will enter this match with great confidence back on familiar turf. The Bulldogs are proving they are a contender this season and pushed aside injury concerns with a telling win over Adelaide last weekend. In previous seasons the Dogs have been susceptible when playing away from Etihad Stadium so this could be a test of character for the young side. Still, with their high-possession style of football and quick ball movement, they should be too talented for Melbourne.
Tip: Western Bulldogs 1 – 39 ($2.10) – CrownBet
West Coast vs. St Kilda (Sunday 15 May, Subiaco)
Narrow losses to Hawthorn and North Melbourne have shown that St Kilda may not be as far off the pace with the top sides as some may think. They face a massive challenge on Sunday afternoon against a well-drilled West Coast side that play Subiaco to perfection. While I think the Eagles will do enough to get the four points, you cannot rule out the Saints being right in the match. The evergreen skipper Nick Riewoldt is in tremendous form and with his running capacity he should be able to play a big role on the big ground. West Coast to win in a tight one.
Tip: St Kilda +38.5 Line ($1.92) – CrownBet
