2016 AFL Round 5 Betting Tips
After a solid start to the year with our AFL betting tips things got a little trickier last week. It wasn’t a complete disaster, but we would like to do better with our 2016 AFL Round 5 betting tips!
Hawthorn v Adelaide (Friday, April 22)
Round 5 kicks off with a monster match at the MCG between the Hawks and the Crows. This is no doubt the biggest test of the season for the Crows. They proved a lot with their victory over the Swans last week, but that was on their home turf. This is against the mighty Hawks on the MCG. And it happens to be Shaun Burgoyne’s 300th as well, so you know the Hawks will be fired up. In general it looks like the Crows have shown enough over the last month to think they can keep this game within five goals. You have to give the edge to the Hawks at home here, but taking the under 39.5.
Tip: Hawks UNDER 39.5 – $2.15 at CrownBet
Port Adelaide v Geelong (Saturday, April 23)
If this game was in Geelong or at the MCG the Cats would be at least 4-goal favourites on current form. The Power have just been woeful and there is no real reason to think they can win this game. That’s why I will be jumping on the Cats at the line here. There are real problems with the way the Power use the ball and their pressure in the back half is non existent. GWS thumped them by almost 100 points last week and while I don’t think the Cats will win by such a big margin, they should win this one fairly easily.
Tips: Cats at the line (-9.5) – $1.92 at CrownBet
St Kilda vs GWS Giants (Sunday, April 24)
The Giants will be very excited to get Jeremy Cameron back in the side. The monster forward can be one of the most damaging goal kickers in the game. And if you remember the Giants managed a score of 150+ without him last week, you can only manage what they could be capable of with him. The Saints, will be buoyed with their performance against the Hawks last week, but that was a tough game that no doubt would have taken its toll. The Giants just look like a better team at the moment. Their midfield is elite and with Cameron down forward, you have to take them at the relatively small line.
Tips: GWS at the line (-9.5) – $1.92 at CrownBet
Gold Coast vs North Melbourne (Sunday, April 24)
The Kangaroos deserve to be warm favourites going into this game, but I just think there is some value betting on the Suns here. The Suns are simply one of the Roos bogey teams. The Suns have won the last three, two at Metricon. The Roos always have trouble with Gary Ablett and overall the Suns aren’t playing bad footy despite their own bogey loss in the ‘Q-Clash’ last week. The Suns are ranked second for marks inside 50 and I still have worries about the North Melbourne backline. Tom Lynch can dominate and will worry the Roos. Getting on the Suns to win a competitive game.
Tip: Gold Coast UNDER 39.5 – $3.25 at CrownBet
