2016-17 NBA Betting Tips – Thursday, March 2nd

March 1, 2017 by Posted in NBA Tips

The 2016-17 NBA season continues this week and with the trade period behind us teams are settled with their players unless they can pick up some free agents. We take a look at the two ESPN televised matches the Celtics vs Cavaliers and Clippers against the Rockets as well as two other matches and offer our Preview and Betting Tips for Thursday, the 2nd of March.

Cleveland Cavaliers at Boston Celtics (Thursday 12pm AEDT)

The Celtics will enter this match on the back of a loss but they were able to have Averly Bradley return to the court. He is a big addition, as he will help contribute with his scoring and his defensive ability. The Celtics are second in the Eastern Conference behind the Cavaliers and a win here would give them a huge opportunity to take the top spot. They were involved in a lot of rumours but didn’t make any transitions during the transfer period to bolster their squad. Isaiah Thomas has been huge this season and is an outside MVP candidate. He will have a great match up with Kyrie Irving in this one who never backs away from a challenge.

The Cavaliers are still without Kevin Love who is one the sidelines with injury. However, they have bolstered their squad with the acquisition of Deron Williams after he was waived by the Mavericks while they also grabbed Andrew Bogut. Williams will suit up for this one and be a great back up Irving and add depth to the shoot guard position too. Kyle Korver has found his shooting touch and he will continue to spread the floor for Irving and Lebron James. The Cavaliers always seem to go to another level when they are facing a title contender and we are predicting them to do the same in this one.

TIP: Cavaliers to win at the margin (1-10) – $2.75 at William Hill

Houston Rockets at Los Angeles Clippers (Thursday 2.30pm AEDT)

The Clippers are back to full strength with Chris Paul back in the line up. Blake Griffin has been on the court for close to a month now and has been at his dominating best. He will have a lot of pressure taken off his shoulders after the return of Paul who showed he hasn’t lost his touch after dishing 17 assists and 0 turnovers in the sides overtime victory over the Hornets. DeAndre Jordan will have a big job in front of him as he will have to protect the rim with James Harden driving to the basket at every opportunity he gets.

The Rockets are sitting comfortably in third position in the Western Conference but will want to make a statement in this one. They rely heavily on the on the three ball and if the shots aren’t dropping then they can lose their way. We are predicting a tight match in this one too but we are expecting the home side to earn the victory on the back of Paul’s return.

TIP: Clippers to win – $1.86 at Sportsbet

Washington Wizards at Toronto Raptors (Thursday 11.30am AEDT)

The Wizards will be playing in their second game of a back-to-back and they will be full of confidence after a huge victory on their home court. The side was clutch down the stretch and held off the comeback of the Warriors and they grabbed the victory. However, the Warriors did lose Kevin Durant in the second minute of the match. John Wall has been huge this season and Bradley Beal is continuing to prove to be a great sidekick, however he does need to find a higher consistency.

Meanwhile the Raptors are without Kyle Lowry for their run home to the playoffs which means there will be a lot more of DeMar Rozan. The shooting guard is huge on both ends of the floor and proved he is the man to go to with the game on the line after his last second bucket against the Knicks earned them the win in the last one. The side added Serge Ibaka which gives them a huge boost in defence and Corey Joseph has been a great replacement for Lowry. However, we can’t see them earning the victory, despite the side being favourites in this one.

TIP: Wizards to win – $2.51 at Sportsbet

Minnesota Timberwolves at Utah Jazz (Thursday 1pm AEDT)

The Timberwolves are without Zach Lavine for the remainder of the regular season but they haven’t skipped a beat since their shooting guard went down. Karl Anthony-Towns and Andrew Wiggins have been dominating and it has lifted the side.

The Jazz will enter this game after a narrow loss against the Thunder. The side made a comeback but ultimately they left it too late. It will be their second game in as many days and that could play on them towards the end of the match. However, the side has proven to be strong, have a lot of depth and very strong on the defensive end. Rudy Gobert should do a great job on Anthony-Towns and Hayward will be able to shut down Wiggins. This will leave the depth and other players on the Jazz side to lift them towards the victory.

TIP: Jazz to win at the margin (1-10) – $2.37 at Sportsbet
