Warriors Trail Blazers Betting NBA

The 2016-17 NBA season continues into the New Year with the Chicago Bulls taking on the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Trail Blazers taking on the Warriors on Thursday January 5 – both of which are televised in Australia on ESPN. We take a look at that game and a few other key match-ups in our NBA betting tips for January 5th.

Chicago Bulls at Cleveland Cavaliers (Thursday 12pm AEST)

The Bulls bounced back to winning ways in their last start. They can thank Jimmy Butler for the W as he went off and was the first player since Michael Jordan to score over 50-points on the Bulls home court. They will need a lot of production out of him for this one as it is likely Dwayne Wade will miss the contest due to a sore knee and it would be silly for the Bulls to risk him in such a tough match against the defending champions.

Meanwhile the Cavaliers won’t be at full strength themselves as Kyrie Irving will remain on the sidelines with an injury. The point guard is a huge loss but it just means Lebron James will take over and be more dominant while Kevin Love will get more touches and opportunities, which definitely isn’t a bad thing considering the level he has played at this season. Rajon Rondo is on the outer at the Bulls and he is likely to play minimal or 0 minutes for the side and Butler won’t be enough to see the side stay within touching distance of the Cavs on the road.

TIP: Cavaliers at the line (-7) – $1.95 with Sportsbet

Oklahoma City Thunder at Charlotte Hornets (Thursday 11am AEST) )

The Thunder lost in their last match against the Bucks, which is danger signs for the Hornets. Russell Westbrook was kept relatively quiet in the match too, for his standards anyway. He will want to get a victory for his side and avoid consecutive losses as the Thunder are in the middle of the logjam in the West. Victor Oladipo has returned to the side, which will help take the load off for Westbrook on both ends of the floor while it relinquishes minutes to lesser players giving the whole team an improved performance.

The Hornets themselves are on a two game losing streak and will want to turn things around on their home court. Kemba Walker was huge for the side in their loss to the Bulls but he is lacking the support he had last season. Nicolas Batum pitches in with solid numbers but he isn’t enough to take this side to the next level. Cody Zeller will miss the match which creates a mismatch for the side in the paint and we are predicting Enes Kanter and Steven Adams to be the difference in this one as they feed off the work of Westbrook.

TIP: Thunder to win – $2.17 with CrownBet

Portland Trail Blazers at Golden State Warriors (Thursday 2.30pm AEST)

The Blazers were blown off the court the last time these two sides met and it doesn’t look as if things will be much different on the second occasion. Lillard is likely to miss the match up which will put a huge amount of pressure on CJ McCullom. The youngster was able to answer the call in their victory against the Timberwolves with a career high 42 points but the Warriors are obviously a vastly different opponent.

The Warriors are sitting on the top of the West and despite the two time defending MVP Stephen Curry having a lower production season, former MVP Kevin Durant has been dominating. Add to that Draymond Green and Klay Thompson and we think the side will be up by nearly 30 points at three quarter time.

TIP: Warriors at the line (-15.5) – $1.95 with William Hill

Milwaukee Bucks at New York Knicks (Thursday 11.30am AEST) )

The Knicks have had a rollercoaster season and they are currently on the downwards tracks. The side is on a five-game skid and they have dropped out of the playoff picture. To make matters worse for the team, Kristaps Porzingis has a sore achilles and will likely miss the contest. Derrick Rose has dropped out of form the side could struggle if he can’t get going soon.

The Bucks are a side that has improved drastically this season and have proven to be a tough team to beat. They are competitive in the majority of their matches and have picked up some huge scalps on their way to putting themselves in sixth spot on the Eastern Conference. The side is on a two game winning streak and with Giannis Antetokounmpo manning the point and Jabari Parker constantly making his presence felt, we are predicting a win for the Bucks.

TIP: Bucks to win – $2.00 with William Hill
