2016-17 NBA Betting Tips – Thursday, December 15th

December 15, 2016 by Posted in NBA Tips

The 2016-17 NBA season continues with a lot of key match ups including the Australian ESPN televised match between the Spurs and the Celtics. We have you covered for the big game + more in as our 2016-17 NBA Betting Tips Series continues.

Boston Celtics at San Antonio Spurs (Thursday 1.30pm AEDT)

The Spurs head into this match as the second ranked team in the Western Conference and somehow are managing to fly under the radar. They have been incredible on the road this season but will play this match at home where they are just 6-4. The side has relied heavily on Khawai Leonard while Australian Patty Mills has been a great 6th man off the bench. The biggest surprise has been from LaMarcus Aldridge who has been relatively poor this season, especially by his standards. However, the side is playing a great team style and he has contributed more on the defensive end.

Meanwhile the Celtics are 13-11 and have been copping a lot of criticism as they were expected to be battling for the top of the Eastern Conference. However, it was always going to take a while for the side to gel and they are still heavily a jump shooting team despite the addition of Al Horford. He isn’t much of a post prescence and it seems to be costing the side. They are without Isiah Thomas who is injured but Marcus Smart has been a great replacement. We believe it will be close with the Spurs just getting the edge.

TIP: Spurs to win 1-10 – $2.42 at Sportsbet

Detroit Pistons at Dallas Mavericks (Thursday 12.30pm AEDT)

The Mavericks will enter this match on the back of a huge win over the Denver Nuggets. However, the players were incredibly hot and were draining shots and blew the Nuggets off the park before things got started. The side still has injuries to Dirk Nowitzki and Andrew Bogut along with a lot of depth players including JJ Barea. There is a heavy load on Harrison Barnes and Wes Matthews and if they aren’t draining shots the side has struggled.

The Pistons will have a huge advantage inside in this one with the presence of Andre Drummond. The big man domiantes the glass on both ends and has begun to find his best form over the past two weeks. To add to that, Reggie Jackson has been finding his feet since he returned from injury and his minutes are increasing. The side will improve their poor 5-9 road record on Thursday.

TIP: Pistons at the line (-4.5) – $1.89 at CrownBet

Los Angeles Clippers at Orlando Magic (Thursday 11am AEDT)

The Clippers will begin a three game road trip against the Magic who are backing up from a huge win over the Atlanta Hawks on the road. The Clippers narrowly defeated the Trail Blazers in their last match with Chris Paul and Blake Griffin putting up huge numbers. Last week we mentioned Paul had been uncharacteristically turning the ball over but since then he has been near perfect with his handle. He picked up a huge 20 points and 20 assists game in the win against the Pelicans and didn’t turn the ball over once in a record breaking performance.

The Magic will be playing in a back-to-back and will be dominated on the inside with DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin making their presence felt. Serge Ibaka will have his hands full in this one but he won’t be enough to contain the two players. The Magic will run out of gas in the second half of this match and the Clippers will run away with it.

TIP: Clippers at the line (-6.5) – $1.95 at Sportsbet

Los Angeles Lakers at Brooklyn Nets (Thursday 11.30am AEDT)

The Nets are one of the worst rebounding teams in the league and it is largely due to their big man. Brook Lopez is a great scorer and brilliant post player but he hasn’t been crashing the boards at all this year. He picked up just one, yes, one rebound in their last loss and that came in the final seconds of the match. It is hard to earn victories when you aren’t picking up second chance points while allowing the opposition to do so.

Meanwhile the Lakers have gone through a bad stretch over the past two weeks and that can be credited to their injuries. However, D’angelo Russel, Nick Young and Juluis Randle are all returning to the line up and full health. It should be enough to see the Lakers earn better results and earn the road victory over the struggling Nets.

TIP: Lakers to win – $2.00 at Sportsbet
