2016-17 La Liga: Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid Betting Tips

Madrid Derby
Madrid city will be buzzing this weekend when the two local rivals clash in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday, April 8th. This clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid may not be the title decider but why do you need a context for a derby? Santiago Bernabeu Stadium will be the host for this feisty encounter.

Season so far
Real Madrid are going great guns and are in pole position to clinch the La Liga. They currently sit atop the standings with 71 points – two points ahead of arch rivals Barcelona with a game in hand. More importantly, Zinedine Zidane’s men have been brilliant in winning games from tough situations – something which Champions always do!

Atletico Madrid had a poor start to the season but have picked momentum in the last rounds. With five wins in a row, they have stormed back into third place – aided partly by the slump of Sevilla. Although the title is far out of their reach, they would love to keep their eternal rivals waiting.

Momentum or Quality?
The trio of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, and Karim Benzema were rested midweek against Leganes. Ronaldo scored a hat-trick in the reverse fixture and will be eager to showcase his credentials once again. The quality at the disposal of Zidane makes one wonder if the visitors have any chance of winning this match!

But make no mistake, Simeone’s side is looking like the Atletico of old that won La Liga three years ago. They relish being the underdogs which is when they become dangerous. They have the momentum ahead of this game and the requisite squad depth to shock the hosts.

Prediction
Odds favor Real Madrid who are tipped to win the match at $1.80 (bet365). But Simeone has a great derby record and has lost only twice to Real in the last 12 fixtures. They have won at the Bernabeu on each of their last three visits. Odds of $4.75 (Ladbrokes) may not be a risky punt. But a draw at $3.80 (bet365) looks the most prudent pick.

TIP: Draw – $3.80 at bet365

Antoine Griezmann has scored in five of Atletico’s last six La Liga matches. Odds of $2.80 (William Hill) on him finding the net this weekend look very decent. For Real, Ronaldo is offered odds of $2 (William Hill) to score anytime of the match.
Sergio Ramos has scored some valuable goals against Atletico with a knack of finding the opportune moment to notify his presence. Odds of $6.50 (bet365) on him scoring a goal makes him a value punt.

TIP: Griezmann to score – $2.80 at William Hill
