2016-17 EPL: Liverpool vs Man City Betting Tips
Pep Guardiola was at Anfield intently watching Liverpool dismantle Stoke City on Monday night. And on Saturday, December 31st he takes his Manchester City team with a hope of overcoming the Reds who have been unbeaten at home in 16 games. You wouldn’t want to miss this blockbuster game for anything, not even a New Year’s party!
EPL Season so far
Liverpool have been the closest competitors to Chelsea this season, with 40 points from 18 games. They have scored 45 goals so and have certainly been one of the ‘teams to watch’ this season. Their propensity to leak goals – Simon Mignolet is back under the bars – also makes them interesting to watch.
City, meanwhile, under Guardiola have been a mixed bag. Expected to be title contenders, Pep’s team haven’t really set the EPL alight with their performances. They look vulnerable at times although a return of 39 points from 18 games isn’t too bad at this stage.
Face-off of two of the most tactically astute managers
The intensity and aggression of Klopp’s blueprint is there for all to see and Anfield is buzzing this season. In 10 games at home this year, the Reds have won eight and drew two. More importantly, they have scored 29 goals in these games while letting just eight through. So even if their defensive record is poor otherwise, they tend to buckle it up at home.
The preparation that Pep brings to the table matches – probably even betters – that of Klopp. But the former Barca manager knows that history is against his team as City’s last league win at Anfield came in 2003. After that win, out of a possible 39 points, they could take just four – losing nine and drawing four encounters. Surely, a puzzle for Pep to unlock!
Prediction
Stoke City gave a glimpse of what troubles Liverpool on Monday night, but the Reds came back storming after going one goal down. Only one point currently separates the two teams, but their form at home and the superiority in recent past makes Liverpool favorites for this encounter. That’s the way to go with this one.
